Job Requirements / Description
Summary: The Applications Engineering Manager is responsible for concepting manufacturing processes and analyzing data to assess the time, money, materials, and labor required to manufacture complete BIW tooling systems.
Essential Functions:
- Prepare quotes for customer systems based on the supplied process released from engineering
- Prepare cycle time analysis, conceptual drawings, sequence of operations, and technical descriptions of machine stations and major system components
- Set estimated margins on all quoted jobs
- Estimates costs of new equipment or capital investment necessary for production
- Collaborate with project management to negotiate changes and costs on projects, negotiates these changes with customers, when required
- Review sketches, engineering data and other RFQ information to determine the items to be quoted
- Oversee the Concepting Processes required to efficiently manufacture components within an automated weld line to a cycle time based off a customer statement of work
- Meet with Customers to kick off proposals insuring we are working to the plant requirements
- Work with the Sales team to review process concepts and quotes with customers, making changes as required
- Work with Purchasing to get quotes for capital equipment required for Process.
- Work with other management groups to access labor hours required to complete the project being quoted
- Attend all budget reviews to assess quoted margins versus actual margins, making changes to quoting template as required.
- Recommend process improvements for estimating and implement new procedures where needed
- Willingness to assist within other areas of the company regarding component quoting and line processing
- Oversee quotes coming into the AE department, and follow them all the way to kick-off
- Provide support for department and give guidance on quote process
- Other functions as assigned by Management
Skills/Abilities:
- Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Experience in Processing required.
- Experience with AutoCAD required.
- Experience quoting entire BIW tooling assemblies preferred.
Qualifications:
- Required minimum 5 years’ experience in cost estimating or process engineering
- Required minimum 3 years’ experience within relevant industry
- Required minimum 2 years’ experience directing and managing a team.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and ability to interpret engineering layouts and data
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze financial data to estimate costs
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task effectively
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision
- Willing to travel locally and long-distance to customer sites to do field checks; if necessary
Work Conditions:
- Must be able to work in a professional office environment as well as a manufacturing environment
- May be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, and occasionally chemical fumes
- The noise level within the manufacturing floor may be faint to moderate, and occasionally loud
- Eyewear is mandatory while in the manufacturing area
- Safety shoes such as hard soled shoes are to be worn in the manufacturing area
- Must be able to work overtime when required as job permits
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time if necessary
- Must be able to bend and lift objects up to 35 pounds if required
