About The Team

ByteDance System Technology & Engineering(STE) team has been committed to the research and engineering development in the basic technology fields, such as operating system kernel and virtualization, construction and performance optimization of basic system software and library, stability and reliability assurance of large-scale data center, collaborative design of next-generation general-purpose & heterogeneous hardware and software, etc. Armed with comprehensive and solid software engineering capabilities, the team aims to guarantee day-to-day business operations of ByteDance Inc. Meanwhile, the team actively follows the new technology trend, and embraces open source communities and industry standards.

The STE team is looking for an experienced System Software Testing and Quality Assurance Engineer who help improve the quality of the Operating System software in adoption to all kinds of servers within the datacenter. This individual will work with the global team to develop the test automation infrastructure, test cases, and do quality assurance work for the Linux Kernel and Linux Operating System to be released. The team's goal is to ensure our system software in the datacenter keeps to be latest and high performance to meet the requirements of hardware evolution and business demands.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely as part of a global team of experienced Linux kernel and Operating System engineers on the rapidly evolving Linux technology. Work regularly with project managers, product release managers to create test strategy and test plans for new releases of system software.
  • Design, develop and maintain automation frameworks and supporting tools with C, Python, Shell scripts, Jason, Yaml, XML etc.
  • Create and integrate stable, re-usable automation test cases/suites for new fixes, new features on performance, functionality and scalability for system software.
  • Execute manual and automated tests, analyse the results, troubleshoot problems and propose action plans to the relevant engineering team.
  • Prepare accurate and well-structured test completion reports to review and approve product releases.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
  • Knowledge of modern computer architecture and operating systems.
  • Knowledge of testing methodologies and CI/CD pipeline techniques with tools like Jenkins.
  • At least 4 years of experience in Unix-like operating system quality assurance engineering.
  • Proficient in at least one or more general purpose programming languages such as C/C++, Go, Python, Java, Unix shell scripting.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and self-scheduled environment and learn quickly.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Linux/Unix operating system architecture, particularly Linux kernel internals.
  • Experience with debugging on kernel, or networking or user applications.
  • Experience with virtualization and cloud technologies.
  • Experience with source control tools like git, CVS.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $145000 - $250000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
