What does a great zTPF Systems Engineer do?
We are seeking a zTPF Systems Engineer. Our Systems Engineers support the stability of the zTPF complexes by providing advanced technical expertise and guidance for our zTPF platform, operating systems, and database. As a zTPF Systems Engineer, you will work to leverage past zTPF experience and grow your skill set with aspirations of a career as a zTPF subject matter expert. You will be responsible for advancing your zTPF operating system functional knowledge from novice to intermediate capabilities, steadily increasing your competences and value to the team. You will be expected to utilize all stages of the development, testing, and implementation life cycle, producing high quality results. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, talented, analytical, proactive person who embraces team culture, growth, challenges, problem solving, and has a solid track record of delivering.

Salary Target/Range: $110,000 - $125,000

Responsibilities include:
- Provide beginning to intermediate level zTPF operating system software development, testing, maintenance, and support capabilities
- Leverage prior zTPF systems, databases, applications, and/or operations experience as a solid basis for developing zTPF operating system and hardware expertise
- Leverage prior open systems experience and/or education for support of zTPF adjacent systems, utilities, and tooling
- Drive career growth toward high proficiency as a zTPF Systems Engineer with a deep commitment to receiving mentorship and on the job training
- Develop, enhance, test, implement, and maintain the zTPF mainframe platform and zTPF operating system, including supporting software and utilities to meet Travelport's business requirements
- Merge and test IBM operating system releases, integrate Travelport proprietary modifications, and maintain system performance and management utilities
- Develop understanding of relationships and impact between adjacent systems, as well as short and long-term impact of technical decisions
- Demonstrate effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with knowledge of system dump viewing tools and analysis
- Provide operational and production support for Travelport zTPF systems, including third level escalation and problem resolution for production, pre-production, and testing environments
- Technical support interface to Travelport customers for zTPF operating system functions
- Provide 24x7 on-call availability and support on a rotating basis with other team members
- 7 or more years of technology experience with 5 or more years of zTPF related experience
- Strong technical aptitude with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Application level knowledge of zTPF operating system, file system, database, and Assembler and C/C++ programming languages
- Ability to navigate adjacent systems such as z/VM, z/Linux, and z/OS
- Working knowledge of zTPF development and testing tools, such as zTPFGI, IBM Toolkit, maketpf, and VPARS
- Knowledge of zTPF control program, host communications, or zTPF database management a plus
- Knowledge of IBM Z hardware operation and/or architecture a plus
- Knowledge of modern zTPF capabilities a plus - DFDL, REST, Business Events, Kafka, Java, Encryption, and/or Jakarta Mail
- Additional programming language/technologies a plus - Java, REXX, OOREXX, Python, Perl, Linux Scripting (Bash, C Shell, Korn Shell, etc.), artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Knowledge of ITIL principles and processes
- Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and embrace an ever-changing environment, competing priorities, and high expectations.
- Candidates will have proficient written and verbal communication skills, open to customer service engagement, and open to coaching, mentorship and productive feedback
