We are currently looking to hire a Hydraulic Engineer for our client’s Operations Control & Systems Engineering team in Denver, CO. The Hydraulic Engineer will be responsible for technically evaluating the liquids and CO2 pipeline systems, conducting hydraulic modeling, surge analysis, optimization, and mentoring other engineers while collaborating closely with commercial teams for expansion opportunities, requiring prompt and clear technical communication.

Below is a list of the key responsibilities for the role, whilst not exhaustive, that you’ll need to be able to perform.

  • Configuring and maintaining hydraulic models for liquid pipelines in DNV-GL’s Synergi software.
  • Managing hydraulic models for CO2 pipelines in DNV-GL’s Synergi and Gregg Engineering’s NextGen software.
  • Conducting surge analysis for pipeline adequacy and proposing solutions for operational needs.
  • Offering expert consultation in hydraulic and surge analysis for liquids and CO2 pipelines, pumps, and compressors.
  • Supporting real-time computational monitoring and hydraulic applications.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements in pipeline performance.
  • Training pipeline controllers on hydraulic and operational issues.
  • Optimizing electrical/DRA costs by analyzing dosages for crude grades and batch sizes.
  • Tracking and forecasting electric and DRA costs for budgeting purposes.
  • Modeling acquisition and expansion projects for Commercial/Business development.
  • Coordinating efforts across departments and demonstrating leadership in hydraulic analysis.
  • Assisting Leak Detection Engineer to align hydraulic models used for RTTM/CPM leak detection and transient hydraulic models
  • Supporting Field Engineering teams regarding surge relief design/settings and automated shutdown logic.
  • Supporting Automation teams in valve timing and shutdown/slowdown logic.
  • Aiding Integrity Engineering in ILI tool runs and pressure reductions as it relates to throughput impacts.
  • Participating in incident investigations and Management of Change processes.
  • Communicating technical information effectively to non-technical personnel and management.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Petroleum, or Chemical)
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience.
  • Expert proficiency in DNV-GL’s Synergi software and pipeline surge analysis, along with extensive knowledge in modeling/analyzing batching liquids of varying viscosities, fluid dynamics/mechanics and hydraulic principles.
  • Familiarity with DOT, EPA, OSHA, and other applicable pipeline safety and environmental regulations is required.
