ASIC Engineer

Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

The Infrared Initiative at HRL Laboratories is a highly talented team with diverse backgrounds in integrated circuit design, advanced packaging and integration, novel signal processing and algorithm development, and integration/characterization of highly complex digital/mixed signal systems and subsystems. We work on commercial and government applications in an innovative research and development environment with a charter to put technology into customer hands. We are looking for a digital VLSI design engineer.

Required Skills:

The candidate must work as part of a project team in this environment. General duties will include:

1. Performing in-depth design development, RTL coding, synthesis, simulation, verification, and validation of Read Out Integrated Circuits (ROIC) and their building blocks with various sub-micron technologies.
2. Being a self-starter who can work autonomously and as part of a cross-functional team in a project-based environment.
3. Performing all aspects of the development process from ideation through design verification testing.
4. Presenting details of work to colleagues, stakeholders, and customers.
5. Creating, managing, and executing to plan, and documenting technical aspects of their work.

Additional Skills:

At least 8 years of experience with a strong background in electrical engineering and integrated circuit design. Experience with:

1. Digital design flow, Verilog RTL coding, RTL synthesis, static timing analysis.
2. Timing closure with multiple clock domains, and digital verification.
3. Imaging sensor control, radiation hardening by design, clock gating, 8b/10b encoding, and Place & Route are desired.
4. Strong EDA tools experience (such as Cadence, Synopsis, and Innovus) is also desired.
5. Hands-on lab validation skills are helpful.
6. Basic understanding of imaging sensors, memories, or similar array chip architectures.
7. Good understanding of scripting or programming languages.
8. Familiarity with the theory and operation of pipelining and data processing, as well as safety and redundancy systems.
9. Knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering and coding principles.
10. Use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and proficiency in writing for reporting.

Physical Requirements:

Proficiency in the use of computers, engineering workstations, complex electronic equipment, and oral and written communication. Interaction with vendors/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work well in a team and independently. Must be sufficiently mobile to work within confined spaces and have both visual and hearing acuity.

Required Education:

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, or related scientific discipline.

Special Requirements:

U.S. citizenship is required. Ability to obtain/maintain security clearances (post-start) is a plus.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this full-time position is $145,745 - $186,688 + bonus + benefits.
