Job Summary

The Sr Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading the divisional Engineering across all manufacturing sites. The team will be responsible for all engineering including drafting, programming, industrial planning, and project implementation. The Engineering Manager will also lead the development of engineering standards, process improvements, and technical development all in accordance with IDX Corporate Initiatives. Accountable for the preparation of architectural fixture drawings and detail fabrication drawings.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Lead, mentor, and develop the engineering team focusing on technical development, practical hands-on training, and a culture of cost savings.
  2. Create and monitor department operational and capital budgets.
  3. Determine and maintain the human and technical resources necessary to successfully meet capacity demand requirements and long-term strategic objectives.
  4. Establish departmental organizational structure, operational systems, project planning procedures, and quality control measures to maintain high standards of engineering documentation, on-time delivery, and divisional profitability.
  5. Provide strong technical leadership in directing engineering design toward increasingly efficient lean manufacturing methods.
  6. Liaise with Operations to investigate new suppliers, and learn new manufacturing methods and processes for efficient production resulting in excellent quality.
  7. Develop procedures and tracking measures that promote clear and effective communication channels with the other departments within the division.
  8. Establish metrics that measure engineering performance.
  9. Promote communication and the development of engineering basics across the organization.
  10. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.

Qualifications

  1. 10 years experience as an Engineer in a wood and/or metal manufacturing environment, store fixture industry preferred.
  2. 5 years of experience leading, managing and motivating an engineering team.
  3. Broad understanding of manufacturing techniques in the wood and/or metal industries.
  4. Knowledge of multi-materials including wood, metal, plastics, glass, etc.
  5. Knowledge of drafting standards, mathematics, science, and engineering technology.
  6. Ability to apply well-developed drafting and mechanical drawing skills.
  7. Proficiency working with Autodesk Inventor is required.
  8. Working understanding of ERP software, Vantage is preferred.
  9. Exposure to other Autodesk software including AutoCAD and Vault.
  10. Ability to express oneself professionally utilizing both verbal and written communications.
  11. Ability to problem-solve quickly and effectively.
  12. Ability to produce under the pressure of timelines and customer demands.
  13. Ability to prioritize and work independently to work on multiple projects simultaneously ensuring all key dates are met while maintaining the highest level of quality.
