What you'll do
Viasat is seeking a new Test Engineer! As a member of Viasat's fast-paced Product Test Engineering team, we craft test solutions for vertically integrated products and services. Our solutions vary across RF and microwave technologies, power and digital circuitry, peripheral interfaces such as GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi, and software, firmware, and certificate configuration management. Projects support lab design verification, integration, characterization, and factory production tests. We support everything from chips to satellites!
The day-to-day
- Gain an understanding of our products needing tests, including specifications, parts, and functions.
- Collaborate with test system design teams to establish relationships and understand and influence system designs that support robust and efficient testing solutions.
- Work with the test design team to understand test requirements and methodologies that resolve the level of testing required for the product during Production phases.
- Maintain and sustain custom test systems to continuously satisfy defined production test requirements, soliciting support from the design team to help maintain and improve systems.
- Shepherd test racks and systems from implementation through end-of-life, including coordination and training with partners across the globe.
- Use problem solving and evaluate engineering and manufacturing trade-offs when planning for and adapting to uncertainty and project risks and opportunities.
- Present creative ideas, informative status updates, thoughtful trade-offs, constructive reviews, and improved process implementations to program management and leadership.
What you'll need
- 2 or more years proven experience working with development and sustainment of manual to fully automated product test systems in a production environment.
- A Bachelor of Science or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field.
- Ability to understand products using documents describing their design and function.
- Familiarity with and ability to interpret test requirements, test plans, test cases, design-for-test (DFT) strategies and methods, and test documentation.
- Provide feedback to improve design specifications, schematics, and wire lists through redlining and collaboration with designers.
- Ability to view and comprehend industry standard computer languages to support collaboration with Software Automation Engineers.
- Work with and interpret results from test measurements, data analysis, and CI/CD processes used in test sequences.
- Ready to use a variety of lab equipment like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power supplies, and boundary scan to evaluate and help fix systems.
- Desire to partner with technical teams at contract manufacturers to drive quality, maintenance, and issue resolution with deployed test systems.
- Excellent written and verbal skills.
- Up to 10% travel.
- US citizenship required.
What will help you on the job
- Exposure to or experience with RF or microwave systems.
- Experience with debugging and fixing Linux-based products.
- An understanding of how embedded code in a product works as a tool to support a test system environment.
- Exposure to LabVIEW, TestStand, and Object-Oriented Programming.
- Experience with networking, OSI model, and L2/L3 technologies such as MAC and TCP/IP.
- Working with large volume data analysis and interpretation: Pandas, SQL, Grafana or similar.
This role is considered a Safety-Sensitive position and requires participation in Viasat’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Program. This includes successful completion of any program requirements including a pre-employment drug screening.

Salary range
$75,100.00 - $130,700.00 / annually
