Job Requirements / Description

Must Haves:

  • Bach degree in electrical engineering
  • understanding of capacitors, reactors, relays and switches
  • 4+ years of experience doing validation and verification testing of battery electric and OHV inverters/ converters (DC-AC or AC-DC)/ dodes/ capacitors
  • proficiency in C programming language to test how software interacts OR SQL to conduct root cause analysis with conductors/ invertors and compare data from different tests

Plusses:

  • experience in locomotive industry
  • 6+ years of experience
  • Experience with Matlab models and controls, particularly for TMC (Traction Motor Control) and ALC (Automatic Load Control) strategies.

Day to Day:

Morning:

  1. Daily Briefing :
  • Attend a team meeting to discuss the day’s objectives and any ongoing issues.
  • Review the testing schedule and prioritize tasks.
  1. Setup and Preparation :
  • Prepare the Power Electronics Lab (B44) and locomotive testing area (B60) for the day’s tests.
  • Ensure all necessary equipment and components (inverters, converters, capacitors, etc.) are ready and functioning.

Mid-Morning:

  1. Testing and Validation :
  • Conduct verification and validation tests on battery electric and OHV inverters, converters, and power electronics.
  • Interface with battery and system controllers to ensure proper integration and functionality.
  1. Data Collection and Analysis :
  • Collect data from tests and analyze results to ensure components meet all requirements.
  • Document findings and prepare reports for review.

Afternoon:

  1. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving :
  • Address any issues identified during testing.
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop solutions to resolve problems.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and implement fixes.
  1. Software and Controls :
  • Work with C programming and Matlab models to verify and validate TMC (Traction Motor Control) and ALC (Automatic Load Control) strategies.
  • Ensure control strategies are functioning correctly and efficiently.

Late Afternoon:

  1. Review and Documentation :
  • Review the day’s test results and ensure all documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Update verification and validation plans as needed based on test outcomes.
  1. Team Collaboration :
  • Participate in a debriefing session with the team to discuss the day’s progress and any challenges encountered.
  • Plan for the next day’s activities and ensure all necessary preparations are made.

Throughout the Day:

  • Communication :
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with team members and other stakeholders.
  • Provide updates on testing progress and any issues that arise.
  • Safety and Compliance :
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

By following this daily routine, the Test Engineer will effectively contribute to the testing and validation of Battery Electric Locomotive components and drive controls, ensuring high-quality and reliable performance.
