Software Engineering Director - Terminal Operations - Tangiers, Morocco

Key Responsibilities

As a Software Engineering Director, you own building, managing, focusing, and developing an engineering team that meets the needs of the business and works well within the overall system architecture. You draw from a deep and broad technical expertise to mentor engineers, complete hands-on technical work, and provide leadership on complex technology issues in the company. While you should possess deep technical skills, you spend the majority of your time building and nurturing great software engineering talent.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for providing technology leadership to engineering team to ensure products and platform services get built based on defined specifications and industry best practices in a timely manner.
  2. Delivery accountability and implementation ownership of solutions for our vessels including both in-house engineered and 3rd party products.
  3. In charge of defining processes & systems to manage workstreams that include software engineering.
  4. Drive compliance & adherence to processes amongst the staff.
  5. Work with product owner, scrum masters, and the scrum team to do release and sprint planning and provide team commitments accordingly.
  6. Drive career growth for your team members by understanding their aspirations and connecting them with Maersk’s strategy.
  7. Attract world-class talent and provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members.
  8. Work with the team to publish research and represent Maersk at top-notch professional venues.
  9. Have financial and budgetary responsibility for area of delivery.

We are looking for:

  1. Experience with Monolithic software and moving away from it.
  2. Expertise on building horizontally scalable, distributed, resilient/tolerant, and monitored solutions.
  3. Vendor Management and stakeholder relations.
  4. Experience in cloud-ready, scalable, high-availability platforms and products.
  5. Experience with large scale 3rd party solution implementation.
  6. Ability to continually identify team improvements (retrospective analysis, maturity assessments, and OKRs and KPIs).
  7. An understanding of the trade-off between technical investments and continual delivery of business outcomes.
  8. Ability to provide direction, support, and guidance for others.
  9. Knowledge of Microservices-based architecture - Java Tech Stack.
  10. Good understanding of cloud technologies like Azure and UI frameworks like Angular.
  11. Independently lead solution design and estimation.
  12. Understanding software industry trends and relevant innovations in software delivery methods.
  13. Experience with Information Security management - Maintain the data confidentiality & integrity and relevant compliance of information systems.
