AWS Engineer - Pacific Dental Services - Irving, TX
The Engineer, Cloud Systems will be part of an industry leading IT team working in a fast paced, cloud-first environment at Pacific Dental Services. Reporting to the Sr Manager, Systems and Network Engineering, this individual will be responsible for day-to-day tasks functioning primarily as cloud infrastructure support through all phases of project and cloud services lifecycle. The Engineer, Cloud Systems is responsible for the overall health of off-premise systems enterprise-wide with specific emphasis on ensuring efficient, reliable application and system services delivery to all constituents in the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participate in architecture discussions and review with various IT groups' technical, business, and use case requirements. Ensure supportability requirements and standards are followed to support a cloud-first environment.
  2. Identifies and may develop new standards to maintain or improve stability and scalability of the current network environment with specific considerations to sustainability and future-proof design.
  3. Research and recommend innovative and where possible automated approaches to configuration and applications that enable cloud-first architecture. Identify approaches that leverage existing resources and provide economies of scale.
  4. Author documents that improve governance and librarianship with system-related architectures.
  5. Participate in all phases of development life-cycle environments including development, test, staging and production infrastructure systems, applications, servers and cloud services.
  6. Integrate cloud operations with legacy processes.
  7. Skilled in determining how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes.
  8. Daily infrastructure services support, engineering and administration in multi-vendor environment.
  9. Manage relationships with vendor support of multiple systems to troubleshoot and investigate the root causes of performance and failure issues.
  10. Mentor and train peers on best practices and operations related issues.
  11. Actively participate in performance and high-availability planning.
  12. Provide guidance to team members in the daily support of various backup systems ensuring successful backups and test backups at regular intervals.
  13. Ensure that processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides are developed and maintained for the team.
  14. Continuously update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications and white papers.
  15. Improve performance of the systems by researching, evaluating and recommending new technology products and services.
  16. Other duties as assigned by management.

REQUIRED:
• 4+ years' experience in Linux administration
• 4+ years of Windows Server administration in a multi-site domain, multi-trust forest. 4+ years of experience working with virtualization technology, provisioning compute and storage resources.
• 2+ years of experience supporting and deploying Cloud computing services, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS deployments.
• Demonstrated ability performing automation of services using AWS CloudFormation, Amazon EC2 Systems manager, AWS Config, AWS OpsWorks, AWS Service Catalog, AWS CodeDeploy.
• Expert level knowledge with AWS design, architecture and services (IAM, EC2, VPC, ELB, AutoScaling, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudFront, S3, CloudWatch, Lambda, KMS, ElasticSearch, WAF, Secret Manager, Amazon Connect, etc)
• Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform.
• Experience with PowerShell.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience with SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) and DevOps processes.
• Working knowledge of Linux CLI commands, SSH, and SCP.
• Experience with Veeam, CloudBerry, or other Enterprise class backup solutions.
PREFERRED:
• Experience working with DevOps and agile workflows.
• Experience with Okta for Identity Management
• Experience working with Extra Hop, Wireshark, and other network troubleshooting tools.
• Previous experience developing, implementing, and operating large-scale, highly available environments through a public cloud provider. AWS services and technologies preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES :
• Knowledge of electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
• Ability to identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
• Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
• Strong skills in communication, both written and verbal.
• Ability to analyze and interpret performance reports and recommend course of action.
• Ability to monitor systems for anomalies that require investigation and resolution.
• Intermediate knowledge of Active Directory and Windows domain environments.
• Advanced knowledge of backup and recovery systems using Symantec Backup Exec., Veeam, scripting and native backup applications.
• Intermediate knowledge of MS SQL service configuration and load balancing.
• Advanced knowledge of share and NTFS permissions.
• Intermediate knowledge of Linux commands, SSH, and SCP.
• Understanding of general networking principles pertaining to a large enterprise WAN environment.
• Understanding of hardware associated with hosted solutions including switches and load balancers.
• Advanced knowledge of SAN and NAS technologies (iSCSI, CIFS, NFS, etc.).
• Experience with thin provisioning and thick provisioning best practices.
• Maintain an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor in accordance with Company policy.
• Ensure compliance with Company policies, as well as State, Federal and other regulatory bodies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
  • This is primarily a sedentary office classification but may require field visits and driving. Temperature conditions are controlled with no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. There is occasional exposure to irate staff, vendors or patients, but there is negligible anticipation of exposure to violence.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, keyboard, to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, see, talk and hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or carry reports, records and other materials that typically weigh less than 20 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch.
  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, and other standard office equipment.

Required Skills : Contract to hire with the client, person must be willing to convert full time with the client Pacific Dental after a 3-6 month contract period. *Must be willing to work on site in the Irving, TX area 4 days a week, 1 day remote *Must be local to Dallas/Irving, TX area currently and be willing to do an in person interview as well. *Must have strong AWS cloud experience, not looking for a devops person, need them to be heavy on cloud and AWS above all else *Must have some exp with Windows and ideally powershell scripting
