Lead Software Engineer - Shop Platform

Our Direct to Consumer business is performing and growing strongly, which is why we are looking for a Platform Engineer to scale our online business to the next level. As an experienced engineer in our Shop Platform team, you will play a crucial role in re-architecting our ecommerce platform, developing and maintaining an internal platform of shared services that empower various teams of engineers within our e-commerce business. Your responsibilities will encompass designing, building, and maintaining this platform to ensure it is reliable, scalable and compelling to use.

The technical stack of On Digital leverages Ruby and Typescript, although candidates with diverse programming experience are encouraged to apply.

Your Mission

• Collaborate with customer-facing engineering teams to understand their requirements and develop services that meet their needs.
• Architect and build internal platform components and services to ensure reliability, security, and scalability.
• Ensure the platform's performance, availability, and security, addressing any issues that may arise.
• Act as a strong communicator and advocate for best practices and platform adoption across the organization.
• Mentor and support other engineers in leveraging the platform's capabilities effectively.
• Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless deployment and monitoring of platform services.

Your story

• Significant software-engineering experience, building and operating scalable systems in production (experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role is a plus)
• Experience with object-oriented programming languages (e.g. Ruby, Typescript, Java) and designing and developing comprehensive and performant APIs
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to design and build scalable, maintainable software systems.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate collaboration with diverse teams.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
