SALARY RANGE: $79,507.00 - $127,043.00 ANNUALLY
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
ELIGIBILITY
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION

CLASS DEFINITION
An Engineer II assigns and reviews the work of engineers or performs engineering work of an innovative, complex nature. Work of this class may involve leading engineers and supervising sub-professional engineering and other personnel.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where there are no uncomfortable working conditions. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have a Bachelor's of Science degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have three years of experience in performing engineering work.
OR
NOTES (EQUIVALENCIES): Have a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for the Bachelors of Science degree in engineering OR for two years of the experience requirement.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES: Some positions in this class require an Engineer-In-Training certificate from the State of Maryland.
Some positions in this class require an Engineering Technologist certification from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).
Some positions in this class require current licensure as a Professional Engineer issued by the Maryland State Board of Professional Engineers or equivalent out-of-state license.
Some positions in this class require a valid Maryland Class C Non-Commercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the methods of engineering analysis.
  • Ability to develop engineering plans, designs, specifications and material and cost estimates.
  • Ability to assign, review and approve the work of engineering personnel.
  • Ability to write technical reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
