The Role
Lumen’s Black Lotus Labs is seeking a Linux Information Security Engineer to join our US-based Information Security / Big Data team. This small team of passionate security researchers works on vast, unique information security related data sets using our distributed computing cluster. The team is looking for a knowledgeable Linux admin with a passion for learning, running distributed systems, and an interest in the security domain.
This position will work within the platform and infrastructure of Black Lotus Labs, supporting the ongoing operations of a big data infrastructure that is used to ingest, parse, store, and analyze cyber threats, as well as supporting the operations of other systems to facilitate cyber security research and analysis. The work effort of the role is focused on the ongoing operational support of on-premises and cloud hosted Linux (Ubuntu) systems that support our Hadoop ecosystem (HBase, HDFS, Spark, Kafka, etc.), Elasticsearch and Redis clusters, Docker using Docker Swarm, a malware environment, and a network of honeypots.
The Main Responsibilities
- Manage a compute cluster of 200+ machines
- Tune and optimize systems
- Monitor and contribute to alerting systems
- Respond to system alerts
- Investigate system resource and process issues
- Add to the monitoring and alerting systems
What We Look For in a Candidate
Candidates must have a strong background demonstrating:
- Knowledge of big data distributed systems like Hadoop
- Knowledge of Linux administration
- Knowledge of system logging
- Knowledge of host networking
Highly desired skills, experience, or knowledge will include:
- Experience with Linux system usage or administration
- Experience with distributed Systems
- Experience with Docker and Docker Swarm
- Experience with Git repository
- Scripting and automation (Bash/Python) of systems
- Experience with CI/CD deployment tools
- Experience with task tracking software like Jira
- Administrating virtual machines on cloud providers
- Securing Linux systems and associated applications
- Managing systems with infrastructure tools like Salt, Bash, Ansible, or Puppet
- Administrating ElasticSearch clusters

Salary Min: 94420
Salary Max: 145770
