ABOUT THE JOB!
The Acoustic Engineer will primarily be responsible for Research and Development of electro-acoustic products in the hearing protection and audio telephony domain. Work will include modeling, design, experimentation, measurement, and analysis to support new product design efforts. The candidate will help create innovative new technologies and apply them to the next generation products. The right person will have solid engineering fundamentals, intellectual curiosity, and a strong desire to learn. Experience in acoustics, test design and setup, and personnel protective equipment is highly desired. A self-starter with good root cause analysis in acoustic systems with ability to make sound decisions and guide projects through challenging acoustic engineering problems is the right person to join our product development team.

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
• Experience with sound and vibration measurements and analysis techniques
• A fundamental understanding of microphone and speaker design
• An understanding of speech intelligibility and psychoacoustics
• Strong understanding of theoretical acoustics fundamentals
• Strong root cause analysis skills in acoustic/electro-acoustic systems
Preferred:
• Experience in the Aerospace and Military industry
• Excellent technical presentation skills, interpersonal abilities, and multi-tasking skills while maintaining objectivity
• An understanding of passive and active hearing protection devices
• Experience designing size constrained acoustic and electro-acoustic products for consumer and military customers
• Ability to work with and test systems which include mixed analog/digital signals, digital signal processors, RF, and power management electronics
• Experience or familiarity testing to ASA/ANSI standards 3.2, 12.6, and 12.42
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work on a multidisciplinary team to design products to meet key performance attributes
• Evaluate design options through comprehensive computer modeling and verify through testing and analysis
• Select, specify, and evaluate transducers as necessary to support system requirements
• Working with the project team, support groups, and outside resources, you will analyze and recommend design options for manufacturability, reliability, durability, performance, and cost.
• You will collaborate with team members to generate and continue to improve "best practices" guidelines related to acoustic engineering work performed within the group
• You will be part of a team responsible for designing and bringing products into production, and working to establish appropriate test parameters
• Test, debug and troubleshoot, and root cause issues throughout the product development phase
• Review of technologies, numerical modeling, design and fabrication of electronic and mechanical prototypes.
• Design and perform experiments providing clear and organized reports
• Prepares designs and testing results, and proposes ideas for new and improved products and processes
• Researches, analyzes, and executes acoustic transducer product development, performance, and failure analysis
• Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Must have the demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a project team member, to generate unique solutions to engineering design problems.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to present and discuss complex technical issues with both experts and non-experts.
• Practical experience with acoustical measurements, test fixtures, and materials.
• Proficient with measurement data reduction and statistical analysis.
• Understanding of active noise reduction technology is desired.
• Familiarity with MATLAB, Labview, lumped parameter analysis, or finite element tools for acoustical modeling.
• Understanding of electroacoustic transducers, accelerometers, and other sensors is desired.
• Familiarity of acoustic attenuation principles for hearing protection devices is desired.
• Experience in research, front-end product conceptualizing, and new product development environment is desired.
