The Project Engineer is responsible for the overall mechanical design of hydraulic presses and associated subsystems. Subsystems may include process heating and cooling, automation for material handling and loading/unloading, as well as vacuum, pneumatic, and hydraulic elements.
The position will include 3-D modeling in SolidWorks as well as creating drawings, bills of material, and other project documentation. The candidate will interface with sales engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing, vendors, and customers to implement new designs from inception to use in the field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provide correct drawings and bill of materials to manufacturing on schedule
Serve as a technical resource for Sales Engineers to assist them in selling equipment
Provide technical assistance to manufacturing to insure on-time delivery within budget
Deliver technical support to customer service to answer customer related problems
Provide technical assistance to end-users installing and starting up our machinery
Refine existing designs to reduce costs and improve performance
Incorporate assembly and field-requested improvements promptly
Control engineering costs within the project
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as individually
Compile manuals with drawings and other documentation for the end customer
Follow all ISO 9001 procedures and work instructions and participate in Q100 quality efforts
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position has no direct reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Project Engineer must have strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of design principles as well as experience in designing custom machines specifically for large capital projects. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret mechanical drawings, quotations, commercial contracts, and other technical correspondence. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to with customers, suppliers, and fellow employees. Ability to write transmittal letters, engineering bill of materials, trip reports, and general correspondence. Ability to verbally negotiate scope of supply, price, and delivery terms.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as strength of materials calculation, thermodynamics calculations, heat transfer calculations, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to understand and use AutoCAD and SolidWorks design software and computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, project management, databases, etc.

TRAVEL
The employee will be expected to travel occasionally to customer and supplier locations. Typical trips are one to seven days in length.
ALTERNATIVE WORK LOCATION - May have the ability to work from Dayton (Vandalia) location at times.
