Motor Services Hugo Stamp (MSHS) is hiring a Application Engineer to join our Control Systems team. To be in this position you must be able to work out of one of our U.S. based locations:

  • Kent, WA (preferred location, aiming to expand our Washington team)
  • Mandeville, LA

Job Summary: The Application Engineer I will be responsible for supporting the development and execution of control systems for power generation and propulsion control systems driven by prime movers (steam / gas / hydro turbines and diesel / gas engines). A main focus of the engineering group is the retrofit and conversion of control systems to Woodward programmable controls, as well as auxiliary control systems be they PLC's, HMI's, SCADA, AVR's, protective relays, power management controls. You will be expected to take a project from conception through design and testing to onsite commissioning and all the necessary documentation on the way.

MSHS is a service-driven company, we must respond to our customers' needs in a timely and effective manner as such there will be times when urgent travel, technical support is required.

Other Job Details:

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday.
  • Travel expectations: up to 30%, including overnight stays and weekends. Occasional projects 1-2 weeks in length.
  • Ability to travel via plane, train, and vehicle.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Salary Range: $85,000 - $125,000 annually, based on skills and experience.
  • This position is eligible for an annual bonus (STI) of up to 10% of the annual salary.
  • This position is eligible for bonus compensation for qualified commissioning jobs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Sales support, determining customer requirements and development of a statement of work, Estimate project costs for materials and engineering resource, quote development.
  • Project engineering, from BOM, Electrical and Mechanical design and development, drawings, Manuals and any documentation to support the solution, to customer support.
  • In-house technical support, of sales and service groups as well as customer technical support.
  • Site support, commissioning and service if required.
  • Safety (working environment on and off site, application design)
  • Field Service - Globally
  • Commissioning - Globally
  • Project Engineering (to include but not limited to): GAP, PLC, HMI, Wiring Diagrams, Function Block Diagrams, Mechanical Layout
  • TAG Support
  • Software tool and database support / development
  • Spec, Quote and Proposal development.
  • Active management and delivery of all tasks associated with the project design and documentation process.
  • Customer relationship development
  • Work in of GCS Web Apps
  • Work in of TRAX (Business Operating System)
  • Work in Sales Logix (Customer Relationship Manager)
  • Travel up to 25%, with occasional projects 1-2 weeks in length

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks
  • Demonstrated self-starting ability with good interpersonal skills
  • Automation Control Systems and Instrumentation experience.
  • PLC / HMI / SCADA programming experience, is a plus.
  • Knowledge of prime mover control systems and their applications, both electrical and mechanical
  • Knowledge of Power Management equipment and applications
  • Knowledge of Marine Propulsion equipment and applications
  • Knowledge of application programs, GAP, Ladder, Function Block, Script, Matlab, Simulink etc.
  • Knowledge of HMI's and SCADA system tools and applications
  • Working knowledge of all standard Microsoft applications.
  • Attention to detail in all tasks
  • Have a high degree of product and application knowledge in all products GCS support
  • Ability to provide project and product support to meet the needs of the customer
  • Excellent customer interaction and communication skills, utilizing phone, e-mail, text, conference calling
  • Fluent in English
  • Technical/Commercial Spanish-a plus for the Mandeville, LA location.
  • Ability to visualize, plan, manage and engineer complex application projects
  • Ability to interpret complex technical specifications
  • Ability to manage time and resources to support the task/job allocations
  • Ability to perform commissioning and service tasks to a high level of competence and skill
  • Ability to interpret and communicate application and system problems to the team
  • Ability to provide clear instructions and problem-solving to the customers
  • Ability to provide product and application training to the customers and the team
  • Ability to set, manage and communicate realistic expectations
  • Be a self-motivated and responsible team player

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent and 3 years relevant work experience or 10 years relevant work experience in power generation, industrial automation or related industry.
  • Valid US Driving License
  • Valid Passport

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, filing cabinets, printers and scanners.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to stand for long periods and be comfortable with kneeling, stooping and working in cramped and uncomfortable positions is required.
  • Should be prepared to twist and turn the body often and must be open to working outdoors in various weather conditions.
