Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work areas such as design, construction, maintenance and bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and/or contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Advises staff engineers.Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Coordinates with area engineers on design and plan preparation.Designs, sketches and recommends bridge repair procedures.Establishes, modifies or interprets applicable standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.Oversees and performs bridge structural evaluations/analyses of structures; inspects bridges that have appraisal and condition ratings or are recommended for closure.Participates in district plan review activities.Performs bridge inspections in response to an emergency.Prepares correspondence and reports.Rates and monitors load carrying capacities of bridges.Represents the Department at meetings, conferences and related activities.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
