$121,000.00 - $224,600.00

The TME team is part of the Global support and services business group at Infinera. We are a technical operations team, and it is our team's responsibility to successfully drive early customer trials and demos for Infinera's new product introductions. We are tasked with:

  • Executing customer test plans inside Infinera-labs and becoming an early expert of new SW/HW product specifications, requirements, features, and issues.
  • Providing technical support at different NPI phases of pre-launch, launch and post launch to both internal teams and external customers.
  • Train our professional services and support organizations on new products.
As a Staff Engineer in this team, you will be reporting to the Senior Manager of the TME. You will be setting up and managing the optical transport lab in the Richardson office. You will work with our engineering partners to test new features, replicate customer issues, execute test plans with the goal of identifying problems before we release our products to the customers. As you advance in your career, you can expect to have more frequent interactions with customers, provide technical support, and conduct trials and demos independently. With the continuous pipeline of new SW and HW product-cycles the work is fast paced and involves working with multiple cross functional partners including but not limited to sales, marketing, PLM, Engineering, R&D, Project Management, and Professional services.
Key responsibilities:
  • Installations, maintenance and management of optical transport systems and subsystems in Infinera's customer support lab at Richardson, TX
  • independently leading all the lab operations and logistics that come with it, driving optimization and efficiency opportunities in the lab to scale the support functions for multiple teams.
  • Maintaining and updating Optical LAB Inventory and ability to support smart hand network technicians in future.
  • Understand product specifications and test out new features that our engineering teams have designed and identify problems before releasing our products to the customers.
  • Provide operations, maintenance, and configuration support to both our internal teams and external customers post launch of the new products.
  • Develop customer specific MOPs and documentation.
  • Independently developing and assisting other teams to build customer specific test plans for successful execution of new product trials and demos.
  • Presenting new product specifications and features to our early customers and driving initial trials and demos
  • Provide technical support, validate customer requirements, and collaborate with Sales and account teams for successful execution of new product certifications and proof of concept trials.
  • Work with external vendors to get needed hardware in the LAB.
  • Troubleshoot configuration failures and generate best-practice guides and wikis for our customers.
  • Become "Voice of customer" and provide specific feedback about new SW/HW Product features to our Engineering, PLM, and R&D teams.
  • Open issues in Jira and provide detailed steps and logs for further investigations.

You should be approachable by partner teams and flexible to travel to execute successful trials and demos.
Specific job skills & qualifications:
  • 5-10 years of Industry experience as optical network engineer (Long-Haul/Metro/submarine network deployment), network automation, customer trials and understanding of key technologies including Coherent Optical Technology, ROADM, and SDN and Ethernet.
  • The ideal candidate must possess a Technical Degree (B.Sc. or M.Sc.) in a field related to Telecommunications such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Optoelectronics, Cyber Security, or a similar field. However, if you have a business degree, you may still be considered if you can demonstrate proficiency in handling intricate technological concepts.
  • The candidate must possess a strong theoretical knowledge of optical transport network protocols, protection schemes, DWDM technology, IP routing protocols, and Ethernet. This knowledge must be demonstrated through academic coursework, industry certifications, or prior work experience. Additionally, experience in Software Defined Networking is highly desirable.
  • Experience with installation, troubleshooting of optical equipment in the LAB/field and using various testing equipment like OSA, BERT, Traffic Analyzers, VOAs etc. would be a plus.
  • The ideal candidate must possess exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills. They should be able to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences alike. As a bonus, if you're great at socializing and have a knack for building strong relationships, that would be a plus!   • Knowledge and/or work experience with Python scripting to automate network operations is highly desirable.
  • Technical competence in trouble-shooting real-time embedded software, optical and digital hardware, and network management systems
  • Proficient in making presentations, MS-office tools, Confluence and Jira platforms.
  • Basic understanding of UNIX/Linux, shell scripting, networking, storage, and general administration
