Job Description SummaryIn the Advanced Lead Propulsion Modeling & Simulation Engineer role, you will be an integral part of the Military Performance and Operability team supporting GE Aerospace’s next generation of military engine architectures, new customer airframes and currently fielded products. This role focuses on supporting the aerothermal component and system modeling necessary to support Preliminary Design, Steady-State Performance, Transient Analysis, Operability, Controls, and other disciplines. You will have a chance to further grow your technical and leadership skills, while influencing the direction of the newly standalone Military Performance Methods team. In this role you will primarily support the Defense Engines Core product lines including RTP, MCTE and EDCP with potential growth into the Edison Works space.Job DescriptionRoles and ResponsibilitiesIn the role of Advanced Lead Propulsion Modeling & Simulation Engineer, you will develop and maintain cycle performance models.Additionally your responsibilities will include:Developing physics-based aerothermal system models that behave reasonably throughout the operational envelopeResolving model issues through understanding both the physical system, the modeling that represents it, as well as the numerical iteration methods used to solve the system.Packaging models for delivery to customers and integration into rigs or simulatorsCreating, developing, and integrating aerothermal models of individual components, physical processes, and subsystem models, that constitute an overall system model.Leading design reviews of modeling approach, functionality, and validityExecuting and assisting others with the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirementsAssuring proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and proceduresInterfacing with tool organizations and commercial teams to improve and standardize processes such as data reduction and class code developmentManaging and communicating project status, business issues and significant developmentsParticipating as a presenter and reviewer in technical and program reviewsActively supporting the Performance Technical Community and Design BoardLeading strategic initiatives and aligning efforts to FLIGHT DECKRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in mechanical, aerospace or electrical engineeringAt least 5 years of experience in a relevant engineering positionDesired CharacteristicsExcited about propulsion and the aero / thermodynamic disciplinesPassionate about problem solving, learning and mentoringAble to work effectively both in teams and independentlyExpertise with the Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS) softwareExperience with gas turbine engine cycle performance or related disciplineExperience with programming or software development and managementStrong oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsDemonstrated process orientation in approach to workThis role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
