Job Requirements / Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, evaluating, and maintaining mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. This role will support Vollrath operations by defining processes and driving continuous improvement initiatives and will independently with limited supervision and maintain effective personal contact across all organizational lines.
Job Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluate, and maintain mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
  • Support operations with a focus on process definition and continuous improvement.
  • Assume responsibility for all engineering project work and delegate or coordinate sub-tasks to other functions.
  • Organize and maintain existing engineering records.
  • Support or lead multiple projects concurrently.
  • Contribute to technical work of consumer innovation projects and other strategic business initiatives.
  • Lead the technical work of consumer-focused projects and other quality initiatives.
  • Apply Quality Engineering and problem-solving tools, including Reliability/Root Cause analysis.
  • Apply Design Engineering tools, including FMEA, CAD, component selections, and the stage gate NPD process.
  • Establish new product bills of materials/routing and manage the change process with current products.
  • Perform physical testing and measuring of engineering prototypes.
  • Maintain state-of-the-art awareness of relevant product technologies, analysis methods, design tools, and methodologies.
  • Make recommendations for capital improvements with ROI studies, cost down savings, and new equipment installation.
  • Train maintenance staff and production operators in the understanding of new equipment and expected product flow through a work cell.
  • Be aware of and establish safety measures for equipment and work cells, and conform to all general safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • May have direct reports, and may be in a position to supervise others.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a university or college accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • 4+ years of relevant work experience. An advanced degree (MS) may be considered to replace 1-2 years of required experience.
  • Experience in successful product launches participating via a new product development (NPD) process.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office and CAD (Autodesk/AutoCAD or SolidWorks preferred).
  • Solid technical skills with a background in metal forming, tooling, and stamping production desirable.
  • Strong aptitude for problem-solving.
  • Excellent project organization and leadership skills.
  • Self-starter with a strong "sense of urgency."
  • Ability to work both independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with lean practices.
Travel
  • Minimal travel required.
