The Company Test & Evaluation (BT&E) Design Build group is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Test and Evaluation team in Tukwila, WA.

Job Description Summary:

Develops and implements production and tooling methodologies. Participates on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across multiple disciplines. Develops, identifies and implements conceptual designs and maintains the program architecture for build. Leads and implements manufacturing plans. Conducts producibility and variation analyses to ensure that manufacturing process capability matches requirements. Assists in providing producibility information for inclusion in project plans and helps document producibility best practices. Analyzes design/build concepts to evaluate producible design/build definitions. Resolves technical problems of significant impact to performance, cost or schedule. Coordinates and implements new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies and concepts. Validates and ensures production readiness of solutions to complex problems. Implements lean principles and technologies.

The Flight Test Manufacturing Engineer is an assembly and installation engineer within Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) that supports fabrication planning and installation by providing design review, manufacturing plan authorship, fabrication sourcing (inside and outside of Boeing), interface with procurement (including tracking), and support in the lab during the build/installation. The primary focus of this position is to lead, manage and support the design & fabrication efforts located in Tukwila, WA. These efforts represent a wide variety of research and production programs primarily in support of Boeing Commercial airplanes (BCA) and Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) programs.

Manufacturing Engineers are owners of the build plan and ensure compliance to design configuration and process requirements. Manufacturing Engineering performs Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) analysis and develops an integrated build plan consisting of work instructions for assembly/fabrication, kitting, tooling, inspection requirements, and other outputs to ensure fabrication meets design, test, and program requirements.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Participates on Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across multiple disciplines.
  2. Develops and documents BT&E ME process and tools for Flight test programs, new job practices, techniques and standards.
  3. Develops, implements and maintains various manufacturing plans, Bill of Materials, work instructions and illustrations to define and document as-built configuration.
  4. Develops and plans manufacturing concepts and strategies to support business objectives.
  5. Prepares build analyses and cost estimate reports.
  6. Leads integration of complex suppliers, processes, materials, data and technology to meet manufacturing and delivery requirements.
  7. Leads teams performing producibility assessments of design concepts.
  8. Manages the program work statement making sure it meets the cost and schedules.
  9. Leads development of complex work statements and sequencing of events to support delivery commitments.
  10. Leads and works with test Project Management, Design Engineering, and Program IE to develop and maintain integrated build plan.
  11. Provides build plan and helps develop schedule.
  12. Close coordination with Design engineers and fabrication personnel, leads coordination with procurement/supplier management personnel across the Systems lab test team and the DB organization.
  13. Drafts, updates and reviews processes and procedures to support business requirements.
  14. Works under minimal direction.
  15. Collaborates with Supplier Management to establish Flight test integration requirements and opportunities.
  16. Leads the creation of training material and tutorials for Design Build ME team.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  1. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  2. 5+ years of experience working in a production and/or manufacturing environment.
  3. 3+ years of experience leading or managing projects and/or teams.
  4. 5+ years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  1. 3+ years of experience working in a lab test, flight test, or similar test environment.
  2. Experience in support of commercial and military customers.
  3. Boeing BCA/BDS/BT&E Manufacturing Engineering experience in Flight Test.
  4. Experience in ME and processes across multiple engineering disciplines.
  5. Experience with PDM, CAPP, CMES, MESci, EPARTs, GOLDesp.
