Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century's most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril's family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.

Anduril Imaging Chief Engineers are responsible for system architecture definition, development execution, and overall technical strategy for land, sea, air, and space EO/IR applications. The team is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the system development of our Space Imaging product line.

In this role, you will lead trade studies to define EO/IR system architectures based on detailed performance modeling of the imaging chain, lead the multidisciplinary detailed design, analysis, and integration and test of EO/IR prototypes and products. You will lead a small team of engineers from concept ideation through system definition and development.

A successful candidate will have experience defining and delivering optical systems, understands the end-to-end imaging chain including object phenomenology, atmospheric effects, optical system image quality, detector performance and image processing.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead the full lifecycle development of space optical systems - concept development, prototyping, fielding and deployment on orbit, and transition in to production
  • Lead system architecture trade studies of EO/IR wide area imaging systems
  • Own system trades during development in conjunction with systems, hardware, and software engineers
  • Own interface, both strategic and technical, with customers, internal shareholders, and platform providers
  • Derive requirements for detailed system design based on the trade studies and performance models
  • Support both laboratory-based and field-based experiments and demonstrations
  • Lead and manage small teams of engineers
  • Engage technically with the hardware, software, and mission teams to define, integrate, and deliver high performance systems to our customers
  • Validate models against laboratory and real world data
  • Coordinate and communicate with both external & internal stakeholders with varying degrees of technical background

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience working with EO/IR systems, performing any or all of: system design, architecture definition, performance modeling, requirements allocations, as well as laboratory and field testing.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with imaging systems
  • Experience in system design and development from initial concept through test and delivery to customer
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a cross-functional team through design trades while meeting program deadlines
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance
  • Willingness to travel to test sites, as needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to decompose complex systems into functional parts, with clearly defined interfaces and requirements for each
  • Experience defining and/or designing optical/imaging systems
  • Strong laboratory skills (e.g. design of experiments)
  • Knowledge of current and next-generation advanced sensing systems and platforms
  • Advanced sensing domain experience (e.g., EO/IR, LIDAR)
  • Advanced proficiency in an analytical toolchains/languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python)
