Lead DevOps Engineer at SmartFinancial

As a Lead DevOps Engineer at SmartFinancial, you will play a pivotal role in our engineering leadership team. You will take full ownership of key infrastructure systems, guiding their strategy, architecture, design, and implementation. Collaborating closely with peer leaders, business partners, and engineers, you will help define roadmaps and deliver on our strategic goals. Your responsibilities include setting best practices, refining the SDLC, and enhancing our infrastructure, toolsets, and processes to elevate the overall engineering organization.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with deep expertise in building AWS environments tailored for development teams. You excel at working across organizational boundaries, mentoring engineers, and leading by example. Your ability to improve and optimize every area you engage with will be critical to your success.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain the cloud environment

  • Manage Cloud Operations: Oversee day-to-day cloud administration, including proactive planning, issue remediation, and ensuring timely resolution of incidents within the cloud environment.
  • Infrastructure Automation & Deployment: Ensure the seamless automation and deployment of infrastructure to support the delivery of SmartFinancial services.
  • AWS Environment Oversight: Take ownership of the overall functionality and performance of the AWS environment, ensuring its reliability and efficiency.
  • Optimize Cloud Health & Costs: Continuously monitor and improve cloud health, automation processes, and expense management to drive operational excellence.
  • Maintenance & Diagnostics: Lead routine maintenance procedures and perform diagnostic tests to ensure system integrity and performance.
  • Incident Response: Address ticket requests and handle escalated incidents promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
  • Process Documentation & Metrics: Document operational processes and maintain comprehensive performance metrics to support ongoing optimization and transparency.

Architect Cloud Environments

  • Architect Cloud Environments: Design and implement robust cloud infrastructures on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform, focusing on optimal database and system architecture.
  • Mentor & Guide: Provide mentorship and guidance on DevOps processes, methodologies, and best practices to support the growth and development of the engineering team.
  • Adhere to Best Practices: Ensure compliance with industry best practices in cloud administration and cybersecurity to maintain secure and efficient operations.
  • Contribute Expertise: Offer insights on information system options, assess risks, and evaluate operational impacts to drive informed decision-making within the organization.
  • 24/7 On-Call Support: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, responding to operational and security events to ensure continuous service availability.

Collaborate

  • Update Code and Scripts: Maintain and enhance existing scripts (e.g., Perl, Python, Ruby) by updating code and resolving errors in the development environment.
  • Manage Installations and Configurations: Oversee the installation and configuration of solutions to ensure the environment remains current and operational.
  • Collaborate with Technology & Security Teams: Work closely with technology and security counterparts to support and enhance infrastructure and security measures.
  • Enhance Application & System Processes: Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize application, system, security, and database processes, ensuring efficient operations.
  • Automate Manual Processes: Identify opportunities to automate manual processes, driving efficiency and reducing operational overhead.
  • Develop GitHub Automations: Create and maintain GitHub automations to streamline and enhance CI/CD pipelines, improving the overall development process.

Requirements

  • AWS Certifications a plus
  • 7+ years of experience working in AWS Cloud and DevOps environments.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development.
  • 2+ years of experience with web applications.
  • 2+ years of experience with Github Automation and CI/CD integrations
  • Experience with database migrations, maintenance, upgradation
  • Ability to oversee and mentor junior engineers.
  • Ability to write maintenance scripts to debug and automate solutions
  • Expertise in monitoring systems using cloudwatch and custom alerts
  • Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics.

Familiarity with:

  • Automation / DevOps - Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Kubernetes, CloudFormation, CI/CD, GIT, Blue / Green Deployments, Github
  • OWASP, SSL, TLS, Encryption
  • AWS - EC2, IAM, RDS or Aurora, VPC, Route53, CloudWatch, S3, WAF, ECS, Fargate, Billing
  • Bash, Shell, Ruby, Python, Linux (Amazon), Apache, Nginx

Compensation

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. The base salary range for this position is USD $130,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
