Job Requirements / Description

The key activities will be to address the design of manufacturing processes and mechanical elements within the facility to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of equipment. Coordinates activities through design, development and implementation phases of project plans. Identifies and develops solutions for continuous improvement initiatives in the areas of equipment utilization and effectiveness, yields, processing rates, and safety. Manages the Maintenance Department to develop and achieve best-in-class metrics.

Essential Functions

  1. Optimizes machinery to add automation and update equipment capabilities and performance.
  2. Trains and develops Maintenance Supervisor and Process Engineer(s).
  3. Analyzes equipment downtime data and develops action plans to improve OEE and reliability. Develop and utilize key reliability metrics to consistently measure performance and capability.
  4. Identifies new equipment and technologies to support continuous improvement and capacity expansion.
  5. Troubleshoots daily operational challenges; first point of contact for shift teams.
  6. Leads process improvement teams identifying and escalating all areas of improvement.
  7. Researches and identifies root cause on customer complaints. Work with team to develop and implement corrective action plan and implementation.
  8. Leads capital projects from define through commercialization. These can include equipment upgrades and new installations.
  9. Dials in maintenance process to optimize PM’s.
  10. Work with operations leaders to develop efficient, standardized work processes.
  11. Assists in development of the annual capital strategy.

Knowledge & Skills

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred.
  2. Minimum of 4-5 years work experience preferably in a process-oriented manufacturing environment such as coating process, flooring, films, adhesives, or extrusion.
  3. Strong mechanical inclination and a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and working with Maintenance.
  4. Proven knowledge in process equipment and instrumentation.
  5. Project Management expertise that includes scoping projects, feasibility analysis, prioritizing, plan, execute, work with vendors, measure, follow up.
  6. Six Sigma Green Belt a plus.
  7. Strong problem-solving skills, well organized, systems/process thinker.
  8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  9. Technical skills/knowledge including OEE, Kaizen, PFMEA, SPC, and Continuous Improvement.
  10. Knowledge of automotive industry standards a plus.
  11. Team player, achievement-oriented, problem solver, analytical, practical, communicator.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages the Maintenance Department with 2 or more direct reports.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00 pm. Based on business activity longer hours maybe required and must be flexible in work hours. Will be on-call for trouble-shooting and support for 24/7 manufacturing operation.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be necessary.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's Degree in mechanical, chemical or related engineering field.
  2. Master’s degree in mechanical or chemical engineering preferred.
  3. Minimum of 8 years work experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  2. Prior experience in relationship building with internal and external.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
