General Responsibilities:

Hitachi Astemo Americas, Inc is looking for an experienced Engineer to join our Suspension Team. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for designing, planning, testing, and coordinating multiple processes for new products related to shock-absorber business, focused on semi-active technologies, software, and hardware integration . In addition, this position will coordinate all product development activity between OEM customers and responsible departments within the Hitachi Astemo.

Job Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this position includes, but is not limited:

  • Review and understand customer specifications in terms of hardware/software architecture and investigate key factors to allow the integration of our products to the customer's systems. Support prototype build and validation testing of new/existing products, including failure analysis (20% of the time)
  • Help to develop the design of new products from concept to prototype build and release through automotive project cycles. Understand and suggest improvements on control logic over close-loop systems such as semi-active/active systems and integrated chassis solutions (30% of the time).
  • Collaborate with other Business Unit (such as software, hardware, and ECU) with the integration of new/existing products (semi-active) with current internal controllers and/or customer hardware (30% of the time).
  • Work along with simulation engineers to provide methodology for virtual product validation and verification (10% of the time).
  • Stay abreast with latest technology, innovation and published futuristic concepts in the field of chassis engineering (10% of the time).

Other:

  • Occasional meetings outside of core business hours with other global Hitachi and OEM sites.
  • Manage / lead assigned deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Foster teamwork through good interpersonal skills
  • Able to share analysis, findings, inferences etc. through excellent communication skills- verbal & non-verbal.
  • Motivated & self-starter with ability to work remotely when required.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of control systems from the hardware, software, and algorithm standpoint
  • Understanding of analog and digital hardware systems as applied to automotive control systems.
  • Experience on CAN bus vehicle communication protocol. Other protocols such as LIN, UART, SPI, UDS are considered a perk.
  • Hands on experience with microcontrollers, form the programming and hardware integration standpoint.
  • Basic knowledge of solenoids and linear actuators.
  • Proficiency on programming languages such as: Embedded C, C/C++, JAVA, PYTHON
  • Standards/Architectures: AUTOSAR, ISO26262.
  • Software Testing Fundamentals: Black Box Testing, White Box Testing, Regression Testing, Unit Testing.
  • Experience with product development inside OEM or a Tier I is a perk.

Additionally, the ability to work independently with minimal direction is required as are strong/effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to travel and support activities and coordination at the global level is required.

Education: Bachelor on Electrical and/or Computer engineering or equivalent. Master's degree is preferred.

Experience: 5+ years applicable experience in automotive industry, preferable in suspension or shock-absorber related areas.

Working conditions:

Physical Demands: Required to sit or stand for long periods. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Have the ability to work 40 - 60 hours per week.

Travel: Domestic and international may be required as needed.
