Job Summary:

We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in industrial design to join our hardware team based near Chicago! If you're driven by a passion for designing sleek and functional consumer technology, we want to hear from you. At Keyo, we design, build, and manufacture our own biometric hardware, from developing our own PCBs to refining camera modules. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successfully designing and developing consumer-centric technology that marries functionality with aesthetic appeal. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for helping to conceptualize and implement the CAD engineering design for electronic devices, developing prototypes, and working closely with the electrical and manufacturing teams to ensure that design specifications are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, electrical engineering, and manufacturing to develop product concepts that meet both technical and aesthetic requirements.
  • Utilize CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) to create detailed mechanical designs and specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to ensure designs are technically viable and meet performance targets.
  • Prototype and iterate designs through testing and validation to optimize functionality, durability, and user experience.
  • Work closely with vendors and suppliers to source materials and components, and to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of designs.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to continually innovate and improve product designs.
  • Document and communicate design decisions, specifications, and progress reports to stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience in industrial design, ideally with a focus on consumer technology products - handheld devices, camera module designs, battery powered or similar products.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and familiarity with engineering analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials selection.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Portfolio showcasing previous design projects and demonstrating creativity, technical proficiency, and attention to user experience.

Screening Questions:

  • Can you describe a project where you successfully balanced technical requirements with aesthetic considerations in the design of an electronic product?
  • What CAD software do you have experience with, and can you provide examples of complex designs you've created using these tools?
  • How do you approach the prototyping and testing phase of the design process to ensure product optimization and ease of use?
  • Can you discuss a time when you had to resolve a design challenge related to manufacturability or cost-effectiveness? How did you address it?
  • Please provide a portfolio showcasing your previous design projects, highlighting your contributions and demonstrating your ability to innovate and solve engineering challenges.
