Job Requirements / Description

Latitude AI (lat.ai) is an automated driving technology company developing a hands-free, eyes-off driver assist system for next-generation Ford vehicles at scale. We're driven by the opportunity to reimagine what it's like to drive and make travel safer, less stressful, and more enjoyable for everyone.

When you join the Latitude team, you'll work alongside leading experts across machine learning and robotics, cloud platforms, mapping, sensors and compute systems, test operations, systems and safety engineering – all dedicated to making a real, positive impact on the driving experience for millions of people. As a Ford Motor Company subsidiary, we operate independently to develop automated driving technology at the speed of a technology startup. Latitude is headquartered in Pittsburgh with engineering centers in Dearborn, Mich., and Palo Alto, Calif.

Meet the team:

The Simulation Engineering Team plays a vital role in developing and delivering Latitude's automated driving products. The simulation team develops efficient, modular and scalable software to simulate the large parameter space of interactions and behaviors seen by the system. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, delivering, and maintaining software systems that run as part of our cloud based simulation tools.

Our team leverages a variety of backgrounds, ranging from robotics, systems engineering, high performance software development, and embedded and industrial software engineering. We collaborate closely with experts in machine learning, prediction/planning, perception, and system testing from across Latitude AI's product development teams to understand the systems they build and the fidelity needed for the right abstraction of simulation.

What you'll do:

  1. Design and implement scalable simulation tools to orchestrate and capture deterministic results from real-time tasks running in a cloud CPU/GPU environment.
  2. Create automated unit and integration tests that verify the software works as expected and meets the requirements.
  3. Analyze logs to root-cause problems found in hardware-in-the-loop tests.
  4. Build tooling to collect metrics and support reliability engineering.
  5. Work with systems and test engineers to refine requirements into software architecture and designs.
  6. Optimize software performance to scale on the cloud.

What you'll need to succeed:

  1. A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  2. 4+ years experience in C++/Python environments.
  3. Ability to design software components and systems and clearly communicate your designs through documents, diagrams, and presentations.
  4. Track record of operating effectively on cross-functional product development teams culminating in successful launches/releases.

Nice to have:

  1. Experience with game engine design patterns such as Entity Component Systems.
  2. Experience developing ML trained actor models.
  3. Experience using the Bazel build system.
  4. Kernel and thread level debugging.
  5. Experience writing performant GPU Cuda code.
  6. Experience with code generation or compilers.
  7. Experience creating software tools to analyze logged data and root-cause events.
  8. Experience with design and architecture documentation, such as UML and SysML.
  9. Experience in multi-process communications (TCP, UDP, sockets, shared memory).

What we offer you:

  1. Competitive compensation packages.
  2. High-quality individual and family medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  3. Health savings account with available employer match.
  4. Employer-matched 401(k) retirement plan with immediate vesting.
  5. Employer-paid group term life insurance and the option to elect voluntary life insurance.
  6. Paid parental leave.
  7. Paid medical leave.
  8. Unlimited vacation.
  9. 15 paid holidays.
  10. Complimentary daily lunches, beverages, and snacks for onsite employees.
  11. Pre-tax spending accounts for healthcare and dependent care expenses.
  12. Pre-tax commuter benefits.
  13. Monthly wellness stipend.
  14. Adoption/Surrogacy support program.
  15. Backup child and elder care program.
  16. Professional development reimbursement.
  17. Employee assistance program.
  18. Discounted programs that include legal services, identity theft protection, pet insurance, and more.
  19. Company and team bonding outlets: employee resource groups, quarterly team activity stipend, and wellness initiatives.
