What you get to do:

The Vice President of Design & Engineering is a member of Sea World San Diego Parks Senior Leadership team, providing executive-level oversight, guidance, and technical leadership for SeaWorld San Diego and Sesame Place.

You will:

  1. Administer and execute all aspects of the park’s capital improvement budget.
  2. Ensure strict adherence to established project budgets & schedules and all company policies and procedures.
  3. Efficiently manage external designers, architectural and engineering consultants, vendors, and construction industry professionals.
  4. Provide leadership, management, and direction for all areas of the Design & Engineering department.
  5. Provide leadership in developing the park’s strategic plan with specific focus on capital investment in attractions, facilities, and infrastructure improvements.
  6. Plan and implement all capital improvement projects in accordance with the park’s annual and five-year capital investment plan.
  7. Oversee scheduling, document preparation, permitting, bidding, contract negotiation and construction administration phases of all capital improvement projects.
  8. Serve as park liaison to the Corporate Attraction group. Coordinate and support park departmental input and criteria, and actively participate in or manage all phases of major project development.
  9. Oversee consultants’ design work to ensure compliance with established standards and project schedules.
  10. Monitor construction in progress to ensure compliance with design intent, contract documents, safety and environmental initiatives, established budgets, and schedules.
  11. Provide oversight and leadership in a collaborative effort to ensure the design and construction of new attractions and facilities complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the standards for accessible design.
  12. Serve as a key park technical resource for all code compliance, infrastructure, safety, and other technical and/or engineering related issues.
  13. Ensure adherence to all capital policies and procedures.
  14. Develop and administer the Design & Engineering department expense budget.
  15. Provide motivation, direction, coaching, and performance feedback to D&E staff.

What it takes to succeed:

  1. Must possess Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  2. Minimum ten years’ experience managing multiple and complex commercial construction projects simultaneously.
  3. Must have strong organizational skills.
  4. Must be highly motivated, strategic & creative.
  5. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, able to read, write and speak English.
  6. Must be able to analyze complex issues & develop effective plans and strategies.
  7. Must be able to effectively lead a diverse group of design, engineering, and construction professionals and promote a healthy team environment.
  8. Must be able to recognize, promote & leverage creative talent.
  9. Must possess technical & functional knowledge of architecture and the means and methods of construction.
  10. Must demonstrate knowledge of site utility distribution systems and all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, etc.
  11. Must possess or be in the process of pursuing professional license/registration.
  12. Master’s level degree in related field preferred.
  13. Professional license in architecture or engineering preferred.
  14. Theme park attraction project management experience preferred.

Salary Range for this position is:
DOE: $120,000 - $137,500 + Equity & Bonus.
