The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, building, and implementing new components, products, or technologies. This role involves researching new materials, organizing and executing the building and testing of prototypes, and developing detailed design documents. The position supports proposal preparation and cost estimates, and plays a crucial role in supplier development and performance.
Job Responsibilities
- Research and develop new materials and competitive products.
- Organize, coordinate, and execute the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
- Assist supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance.
- Oversee the efforts of drafting and testing specialists.
- Develop and document functional requirements and translate them into detailed design documents.
- Participate in buy build analysis for product components.
- Support proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
- Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
- 2 4 years' experience.
- Knowledge of cooling systems technology and various application methods.
- Product Design and Development: Ability to design, build, and develop new products from concept to production.
- Computer Aided Design & Engineering: Proficient in specialized graphics programs to produce, analyze, simulate, and test product design drafts.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to perform effective analysis, determine root causes of problems, and create alternative solutions.
- Product Design
- Manufacturing: Ability to convert customer and market requirements into product designs.
- Familiarity with Caterpillar Processes and Procedures such as checking and releasing of prints, APQP, and Analysis/Virtual Design.
- Effective Communications: Ability to transmit, receive, and interpret ideas and information effectively.
- Managing Multiple Priorities: Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and make judgments on prioritizing and time allocation.
- Lack of required degrees or relevant experience.
- Inability to manage multiple priorities or communicate effectively in team settings.
