Qualified candidates will be well-rounded, organized problem solvers with an interest in managing complex projects, working within a team of skilled engineers, and developing early career professionals. The qualified candidate should be developing experience in the application of soil mechanics fundamentals and practice of geotechnical engineering for design of deep foundations, spread foundations, retaining walls, embankments, slope stability, seepage and consolidation, and ground improvement , particularly on water resources and transportation infrastructure projects.Job Responsibilities:Develop geotechnical engineering scope of services and fee estimatesPlanning and oversight of geotechnical subsurface explorationsManage/review geotechnical and construction phase observation and testing field work performed by othersAssign, review and interpret geotechnical laboratory testsPerform/review geotechnical engineering analyses and calculationsDevelop geotechnical engineering recommendations and write geotechnical engineering reportsPerform project management activities including communicating resource needs, managing client expectations, planning and delegating work, management of project budgets, invoicing and backlog reportingCapable of managing client relationships and business development opportunities with increased experienceCapable of managing and mentoring staff, geologists and technicians with increased experienceWork as a team member within the office and across the business unit in other Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resourcesRequired Skills/Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited programLicensed Professional Engineer with the ability to obtain by comity , or able to obtain Professional Engineer license within 12 months of engagement.4+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineeringWillingness and ability to travelAutoCAD and GIS skills suitable for developing geotechnical deliverablesAbility to advance proficiency with geotechnical engineering analysis software such as LPILE, APILE and SHAFT, GeoStudio, Settle3D and FoSSA, OpenGround, or similar programs.Strong oral and written communication skillsAbility to multi-taskStrong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvementAbility to thrive in a collaborative team environmentConfidence and independence, with a shared sense of responsibilityPreferred Skills/Experience:Project management experience for a variety of transportation projectsSome background knowledge of the transportation market in the Southeastern USA, and ability to develop client relationshipsExperience with transportation agency policies, procedures (e.g. GDOT, SCDOT, NCDOT, FDOT) and requirementsAbility to support geotechnical aspects of dam and tunnel engineering projectsOther Requirements:Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit checkAbility to pass a pre-employment screeningThe compensation range for a Project Engineer is between $73,202 to $110,015. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors.
