Interstate Engineering is seeking a Mid-Level/Senior Structural Engineer to join our team! As a Structural Engineer, you will play a key role in the structural element design of bridges, buildings, and other large structures; lead a multi-disciplinary team using your technical and management skills; use your technical expertise by being hands-on during the design process; direct your team by providing technical direction and expertise; use project management skills for organizing, planning, and directing work activities and budgets; foster and build a client-base through relationship development and maintenance; contribute to business development opportunities including preparing proposals and leading client meetings; and provide construction management.

The ideal candidate will have excellent mathematical and analytical aptitude, be detail-oriented and creative, and possess honed problem-solving skills. Within our Structural Group at Interstate Engineering, you will work with many clients covering various project types such as commercial and industrial buildings, water/wastewater infrastructure, existing building remodels, single/multi-family residential, and municipal/county/state bridges.

To ensure success, you should display an investigative nature, be accurate and commercially aware, and have great communication skills keen to ensure the safety and physical integrity of bridges, buildings, and other large structures. Top candidates will have developed project and budget management skills with knowledge of construction processes, materials, and legal regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform calculations for various structures considering applicable loads and determine resulting stresses.
  • Consider the strength of construction materials and select appropriately.
  • Provide technical advice for safe designs and construction.
  • Administer contracts and manage projects.
  • Prepare reports, designs, and design/construction drawings.
  • Liaise with professional staff such as architects and engineers.
  • Assist clients with planning and/or building regulations approval.
  • Perform occasional site visits to evaluate existing structural conditions.
  • Use computer-aided design software to perform structural analysis and prepare design/construction documents.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering or related field with emphasis in structural engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • 5+ years of experience in Structural Engineering.
  • Superior attention to detail, technical proficiency, and desire to work as a team.
  • Self-motivated and able to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Possess a strong understanding of applicable building codes and design standards (i.e. International Building Code, ASCE 7, etc).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with FEM & BIM software (RISA-3D and Revit preferred).
  • Proficiency in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design.
