We are looking for:
You, a Functional Safety Engineer, who demonstrates a commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety. You possess a deep technical understanding of process controls, automation, instrumentation, control systems, and functional safety. You are able to communicate safety concerns across the company, drive change, and implement new standards. You use and promote safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
In this role you will:
  • Identify and evaluate areas of opportunities for safety standards to be implemented as it relates to software integration within industrial processes (including Refining, Chemicals, Cement, Mining, etc.)
  • Develop Best Safety Practices for various technical-related operations including:
    • Software integrations with different Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
    • Code Reviews (APC Logic, Datahub Logic, Integration Logic)
    • Virtual App Testing Requirements
  • Work diligently to reduce and prevent safety near misses or incidents
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and investigation for incidents
  • Conduct Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis)
  • Develop and review SIF lists, SRSs, SIL calculations, cause-and-effect matrices, Functional Safety Plans, FAT procedures, integrated FAT (iFAT) procedures, and SAT procedures
  • Perform and document gap assessments by comparing current designs and configurations against SIS standards
  • Review engineering documents related to instrumentation and SIS configuration modifications, including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment layout, cable routing, BPCS and SIS architectures, PLC program, and cabinet arrangements
  • Monitor, review and communicate leading and lagging indicator performance as well as execution of safety initiatives
  • Support projects in specialized areas of PSM including procedure development, support of management of change implementation, and compliance audits.
  • In-person engagement with an emphasis on risk mitigation, execution of safe work and team building while seeking efficiency, automation and continuous improvement
  • Participate in the development of global safety standards, programs, training courses, and work processes
  • Maintain a Safety Network database system - General admin responsibilities for customer or vendor portals, maintaining active roster, auditing information, and assigning user training
  • Own employee safety training activities and site compliance reporting
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Safety and Site Access Requirements for global customers
  • Travel 5-10%
Qualifications:
  • BSc in Electrical Engineering or Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or in an area related to Engineering, Safety or Industrial Processes.
  • 15+ Years in Industrial Automation & Process Control, Instrumentation, Control Systems, and Functional Safety
  • Must possess a working knowledge of manufacturing processes (i.e. Refining, Chemicals, Cement, Minerals, Heavy Industry processes)
  • Support in control systems installation and commissioning, especially from functional safety and safety lifecycle requirements.
  • Standards (Process controls, IEC (Instrument Electrical Controls), ISA
  • Experience supporting technical groups such as IT, Engineering, and Operations
