Job Description

The Test Facility Design Engineering unit at Bettis Site is seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to join our team to support the design, procurement, construction, shakedown, and operation of new and replacement test facilities.

More about the role:
• Perform fluid-mechanical system and hardware design, ASME code calculations, equipment selection and procurement, and support test platform development.
• Redesign existing spaces and support construction and operations teams to implement changes. This includes developing scopes of work for construction and test facility assembly.
• Act as a pivotal member of the team delivering one-of-a-kind testing systems that will serve the Naval Reactors program for decades to come.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 9 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 7 years of relevant experience

Preferred Skills

• Applied knowledge of pressure equipment, ASME B31 series, and fluid/mechanical system design and operations in industry.
• Motivation to pursue advances in technology, make decisions, and deliver results.
• Experience using CAD software packages to evaluate suitability of a design based on functional requirements, design codes, and constraints (budget, physical space available, interferences, etc).
• Previous work supporting test facilities and infrastructure to select, maintain, and troubleshoot electro-mechanical devices (valves, pumps, heaters, heat exchangers, flow meters, pressure vessels).
• Construction experience, including familiarity with OSHA requirements.

Pay Range

$103,100.00 - $161,100.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
