Job Summary:
The Shift Team Leader is a working team member and part of the operations team, that is responsible for supporting the department lead in daily management of production activities. This role communicates daily with the incoming/outgoing shift lead counterpart in the department and ensures smooth transition of production, including key priorities and any unresolved issue that need attention.
Essential Functions:
Operate as a primary point of contact for the department lead on the shift in the department to communicate priorities and any other critical information to the team.
Set Up and Operate machines in home department.
Two to Three times throughout the shift, walk through the department and ensure work activity is proceeding as expected.
Ensure product quality is always maintained in the department. Includes ensuring operators follow control plans and that gages are present for the work order and in good working condition.
Be available for questions from department team members.
Coordinate requests for maintenance that occur during the shift.
Act as an emergency contact for employee health, safety, fire and hazard issues.
Confront minor infractions when observed and report all minor/major issues to department lead.
Maintain open communication with other shift team leads and department lead about ongoing events and observations.
Assist in the training and onboarding of new department resources on the respective shift.
Collaboration Responsibilities
Collaborate with raw material desk, tool room, engineering, safety and production planning as needed to ensure smooth production output during the shift.
Collaborate with the quality team to investigate, contain, and resolve any non-conformances discovered in process or escalated by customers. Communicate and champion any quality alerts within the department.
Routinely review work instructions and operator guidance to ensure clarity and simplicity of instructions.
Environmental, Health & Safety:
Collaborate with safety manager to ensure operations are compliant with all safety & environmental requirements.
Drive safety culture with pro-active hazard identification
Take personal responsibility for keeping yourself, co-workers and visitors free from injury by participating in and/or conducting risk assessments, workplace inspections, corrective actions and safety observations.
Reinforce safety margins through active participation in incident investigations, corrective actions managed shift changes, toolbox talks, pre-tasking, STOP WORK, and task scanning.

Required Education and Experience:
Experience operating CNC machining equipment such as Swiss Lathe, Mill Turn Machines, Vertical Machining Centers & Horizontal Machining Centers, etc.
AS degree in Business or Technical discipline or related job experience
Five (5) years related experience.
Demonstrated experience developing and improving processes.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using shop ERP systems to manage work orders
Experience setting up and operating some combination of Citizen Lathes, HaaS VMC, Doosan Mill, DMG Mori Mill & Eurotech Mill Turn Machines.
Demonstrated experience coordinating activity in a department, communicating effectively with peer operators.
