Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Redondo Beach, CA. This position requires on-site support, occasional odd shifts, weekend work, and some inter-facility travel to Palmdale as well as up to 10% of other travel.

In this role, you will serve in a Project Engineering capacity with a heavy focus on Configuration Change Management and Execution. You will be required to learn and understand industry Configuration Management practices, Change Control, as well as understanding the Sector and Program principles, concepts, practices, and standards.

Your strong communication skills are necessary to coordinate with the customer and the internal Integrated Product Teams (IPTs). You'll drive change execution between Engineering, Global Supply Chain, and Production to completion and present status and issues to Program Leadership. The environment is highly dynamic and requires that you discover and design solutions to share with colleagues.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline with 5 years of related military/professional Systems Engineering experience OR a master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of related military/professional Systems Engineering experience OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline with related military/professional/academic Systems Engineering experience.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 Years with Bachelors in Science, Engineering, or Mathematics; 5 Years with Masters; 2 Years with PhD.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively team with multiple organizational disciplines.

  • Team leadership and technical delegation experience highly desired.

  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and create metrics, presentations, and work instructions.

  • Excellent technical writing skills, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Government Contracts Experience.

  • Familiarity with FAR/DFAR/DCMA.

  • Experience developing, evaluating, or auditing plans, processes, and procedures.

  • Experience with Lean concepts.

  • Experience with Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing, and Test documentation.

  • Familiarity with Cost/schedule/budget concepts and tools (EVMS, SAP, etc.).

  • Technical knowledge and practice in design, analysis, or on-aircraft experience with Subsystems, Composites, or Metallic Structures.

Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company-paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
