The Mechanical Design Engineer Contractor is responsible for creating a wide range of mechanical solutions for the development of lithium batteries. The Mechanical Design Engineer will develop design concepts using CAD tools, mock-ups, and prototypes, and will validate designs through analysis, testing and trials. The candidate will be a key member of the mechanical engineering team and will participate in the new product development and product improvement efforts of the division. The candidate will work alongside other departments to ensure manufacturability, durability, and performance of the products. The Mechanical Design Engineer will liaise with manufacturing, supply chain and operations to ensure transition of the designs into mass production. Within the Mechanical Engineering team, the Mechanical Design Engineer will participate in the development of the team's capabilities, expertise and engineering best practices. The candidate must have excellent problem-solving skills and be very detail oriented. The candidate will need to be a customer oriented, self-starter who can work in a dynamic and evolving team environment. This position also requires a good understanding of technology, materials and manufacturing methods for metals, plastics, and composites.
Based in our Alpharetta GA office. Onsite daily is required.
Responsibilities
Technical Data Management:
• Capability to manage and control configuration of technical data.
• Bill-of-material (BOM) creation and update Product and Tooling Development:
• Design, prototyping, validation, and implementation of new products.
• Demonstrate concepts through sketches, mock-ups, and prototypes
• Applies engineering best practices for modeling and/or design of experiments to limit the number of design iterations.
• Performs some analytic work associated with mechanical engineering: static and dynamic stress analysis, etc.
• Select proper components, technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes best suited for the application.
• Perform and document tolerance stack-up analysis, analytic work associated with mechanical engineering and mine data to support fact-based decision making.
• Develops engineering budgets and track them to target size, weight, max/min material conditions, etc.
• Produce 3D models and 2D drawings of parts and assemblies.
• Validate designs through testing and trials.
• Define mechanical specifications.
• Liaise with other departments and suppliers as required.
• Participate in the development of new engineering standards and processes.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
• Requires a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 plus years of experience in product development. Entry level will be considered with strong fundamental knowledge.
• A minimum 500hrs of SolidWorks experience and proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
To be successful with this role:
• Experience and understanding of fundamental design calculations and techniques.
• Experience in GD&T
• Familiarity with design and tests against impact and shocks.
• Good understanding of mechanical principles, tolerancing and strength of materials.
• Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills.
• Manual skills and experience in creating mock-ups and prototypes is a plus.
• Technical Data Management experience in SolidWorks PDM and ARENA.
• Experience within a production environment.
• Strong English language, verbal communication and writing skills required
• Knowledge of and experience working with Military products and electronics housing design, a plus
Work Environment:
• 90% Office base and 10% manufacturing environment.
• Some travel may be required between Stryten facilities.
• Ability to rent vehicles for company travel.
