Freelance Graphic Designer

Bethesda Magazine is looking for a freelance graphic designer. This is an independent contractor position and the designer will work remotely.

The ideal candidate will live in Montgomery County, Maryland, or Washington, D.C.

We are looking for someone with experience in the design and production of magazines. Candidates must be proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud’s collection of design solutions. The designer will work on the six issues of Bethesda Magazine and the annual Insider’s Guide publication.

For each issue, the designer will:

• Meet with the editorial and art team weekly (or every other week) to discuss stories and art.
• Work closely with our in-house art department.
• Contact outside sources to collect existing images, and obtain caption and credit info.
• Design layouts for the magazine.
• Work with editors and the in-house art department on changes to designs/photos/images.
• Create PDF proofs for editorial review.
• Ensure files are built to printer’s specifications, working with the print vendor to ensure all pages are within specifications for optimal output.
• Work with publisher and advertising team to design special ad sections.
• Create final PDFs to send to the printer.
• Create graphic images for social media posts.
