Job Title: Sr. Storage Engineer

Work Location: Hybrid; Asheville, NC & Remote

The Sr. Storage Engineer is responsible for large petabyte scale storage environments in Asheville, NC. The primary focus of the Sr. Storage Engineer is to provide operations, maintenance, and sustainment support for the Ceph Object Storage environment. The secondary focus will be supporting the NCEI Linux System Administrators in the management of the local, on-premises network file storage (NFS) systems. This includes working with NCEI stakeholders on capacity management and planning and providing regular usage reports for NCEI on-premises storage services. Time permitting, tertiary responsibilities may include Linux System Administration support. When operating nominally, backup support of the Spectra T-Finity will account for 20% of the candidate's time. The remaining time will be spent providing support for other storage services local to the data center and with any capacity planning data calls and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage a Red Hat Ceph Storage cluster
• Provide block storage with RBD
• Provide file storage with CephFS
• Experience managing Ceph cluster running in container environment
• Manage Linux file systems via Ansible (Playbooks)
• General Linux Administration
• Experience managing Linux cluster environments to support distributed computing
• Experience managing large capacity storage environments
• Experience with setting up and managing PB scale environments
• Experience with setting up IBM spectrum protect backup and archive solution and managing the IBM tape library with LTO tapes
• Experience managing IBM tape library
• Experience managing Dell MD/ME series arrays

Required Qualifications:

• Experience/Skills:
  • Clear understanding of storage internals in Linux environment in support of Ceph
  • Strong concepts of various storage management solutions
  • Linux Administration

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline

Required Certifications:

• RHCSA - RedHat Certified Linux Administrator
