MIKEL is currently seeking an entry level Mechanical Engineer to be part of our SANS team.
The Mechanical Engineer will work as a member of the SANS team to design, build, test, and refine instrumentation and equipment that can operate in ocean environments. In this fast-paced setting, the candidate will be exposed to all aspects of the product development cycle which include but are not limited to; concept design, prototype/discovery testing, supply chain and manufacturing activities.
Responsibilities

  • Must be able to read and interpret and work from engineering drawings, schematics, sketches, notes, and verbal direction.
  • Design and develop component and assemblies using 2D CAD and 3D solid modeling software; electrical and mechanical.
  • Supporting design effort by performing mechanical engineering analysis to establish validity of proposed designs.
  • Prepare detailed tolerance analysis.
  • Perform thermal analysis, buoyancy analysis, FEA, CFD and other analyses to meet design requirements.
  • Participate in brainstorm sessions to help offer new ideas, solutions.
  • Support the creation of technical performance specifications and assist in procurement of engineering items as necessary.
  • Work with suppliers to clarify engineering drawing issues.
  • Research historical part drawings for engineering investigations.
  • Prepare engineering red lines and change requests.
  • Provide sustaining engineering support for legacy product lines.
  • Support internal/external design reviews.
  • Processing & release of drawings / support of drawing filing and storage.
  • Must be capable of working with a minimum of supervision and guidance.
  • Able to work simultaneously on a variety of projects.
  • Travel and work off-site at another location, including at-sea, is required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Master of Science, Mechanical Engineering (MSME) degree with good mechanical skills.
  • 0-2 years of experience.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Be able to use MS Word; MS Excel; AutoCAD; SolidWorks; Onshape.
  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results.
Travel
  • Occasional - potential for three or more trips per year, including at-sea support.
Preferred Expertise & Skills
  • Experience with DOD design / drawing requirements.
  • Interest in basic material science as it relates to the optimal use of materials in marine environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.

Ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
