Allergan Data Labs is on a mission to transform the Allergan Aesthetics beauty business at AbbVie, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. The medical aesthetics business is ripe for rapid growth and disruption, and we are looking to add to our high performing team to do just that.

Our team has successfully launched a new and innovative technology platform, Alle, which serves millions of consumers, tens of thousands of aesthetics providers and thousands of colleagues throughout the US. Since its launch in November 2020, Alle has delivered curated promotions, personalized experiences and had millions of consumers use it as part of their beauty journey.

As the Software Engineering Manager, you will report to the Director of Engineering and continuously collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to solve the most critical technical problems.

You Will

1. Manage, lead by example, and mentor a team of 5+ Backend and Frontend Engineers to deliver high quality code that is secure, reusable, correct, and scalable.
2. Dive deep into PR reviews and pair coding sessions to level up the team.
3. Onboard as a backend engineer and look for high leverage opportunities to write code yourself.
4. Help shape on call rotation processes and train your team to be effective incident responders.
5. Elevate the quality of engineering across the organization by conducting code reviews, leading or participating in design sessions, improving documentation, and encouraging automation.
6. Conceptualize and execute technical approaches for emerging systems and architecture.
7. Build the Data Labs engineering brand through blog posts, culture, conferences, open-source projects, and meet-ups.
8. Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to help grow the engineering team and foster a culture that embodies our core values.

Required Experience & Technical Skills

1. Total industry experience of 12+ years desired of which 8+ years working as a Software Engineer or Architect. Experience as a manager is a plus but not required, however you must have previously worked as a tech lead.
2. Hands-on experience designing, creating and maintaining data pipelines using established workflow frameworks such as Airflow or Prefect (or similar).
3. Experience building and scaling APIs with either GraphQL and Apollo or REST.
4. Proficient with SQL and NoSQL flavors like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and DynamoDB. This includes proven experience in debugging RDBMS query performance.
5. Proficient building cloud-native architectures in AWS or similar. You understand when to use Serverless/Lambda, but you also know where servers and Kubernetes can have their place.
6. Exposure to front-end frameworks like React and NextJS.
7. Exposure to mobile applications using React Native or Native for iOS and Android.
8. You understand infrastructure as code using Terraform, Consul, CI/CD, and other tools.
9. You've set up successful test suites to cover unit, integration, e2e, load, and security tests.
10. You've worked in cross-functional Agile Scrum teams and rely on proven management methodologies. Excellent communication, presentation, and white-boarding skills.
11. BS or MS in Computer Science or related field; or comparable experience.
