You Are

UST is looking for a highly energetic and collaborative Sr. Data Engineer, for their data services division, with experience developing products around Business, Data and IT operations using Java, Open-Source Big Data Technologies, and Azure. The ideal candidate is an expert in leading projects in that leverage data technologies - traditional, new and emerging technologies.

The Opportunity

  • Work with architects and engineers in developing data products that solve Big Data problems.
  • Ability to design and develop workflows and applications that leverage Big Data open-source products and tools.
  • Participate in technical architectural discussions, design and develop data applications, and help troubleshoot software issues.
  • Help optimize application code for performance and scale.
  • Participate in product roadmap discussions and provide point of view and subject matter expertise.
  • Compare solution alternatives across costs, technical and business parameters.
  • Adapt to existing methods and procedures to create possible alternative solutions to complex problems.
  • Understand the strategic direction set by senior management as it relates to team goals.
  • Primary upward interaction is with direct supervisor.

This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.

What You Need

  • 8+ years of experience architecting technical solutions for Global 1000 and Fortune 500 clients.
  • Strong hands-on development experience with data services on Azure (preferred), AWS or GCP.
  • Exposure to open-source and Big Data (HDFS, Hive, MR, Apache Spark etc.) technologies.
  • Exposure to Graph databases and/or Azure Digital Twins is good to have.
  • Strong RDBMS/SQL skills with experience on multiple database platforms such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and cloud RDBMS such as Amazon Redshift, Azure Synapse.
  • Some experience in NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB. Exposure to Hadoop and other MPP technologies e.g. (Hadoop, YARN, MapReduce, Spark, Hive, HBase, SparkSQL, Kafka, SQOOP).
  • Good experience on at least one modern UI frameworks such as Angular and familiarity with NodeJS, NPM. Strong foundation on Web Technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript.
  • Experience with Azure preferred. Experience with one of Azure, AWS or GCP is a must have.
  • Understanding of Open Architecture, Microservices Architecture, Client-Server, Multi-tier/Multi-layered architecture, Micro front-end, Multi-tenant is required.
  • Strong Java or C# programming skills preferred.

Compensation

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.

Role Location: Massachusetts

Compensation Range: $80,000-$120,000

Benefits

Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following Company-paid Employee Only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) program with employer matching. Part-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year).

All US employees who work in a state or locality with more generous paid sick leave benefits than specified here will receive the benefit of those sick leave laws.
