Description
The Associate Civil Engineer will manage active transportation projects, such as the Dennis Machida Trail Planning and Design, manage the Citywide Traffic Calming Program, participate in Corridor Studies, respond to residents' requests for traffic control devices and other traffic engineering requests, conduct field inspection of projects, and participate in development and implementation of Capital Improvement Projects. The ideal candidate should have a Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering license in the State of California.

Summary Description
Under general direction of the Director of Public Works or other designee, performs professional and technical civil engineering or architectural work in assigned area of responsibility, including design, modification, and retrofit of public facilities and buildings, construction management and administration, energy upgrades, ADA upgrades and other capital improvement projects.

Associate Civil Engineer/Architect - The Associate Civil Engineer/Architect is the full journey level class in the professional civil engineering/architectural classification. Positions in this class possess the applicable educational and training background required for classes in the professional civil engineering and architectural design and facilities projects, including appropriate certificates and licenses in the field, as well as practical work experience. The Associate Civil Engineer/Architect position is based on demonstrated proficiency in performing the assigned functions and/or certification or testing that validates the performance of the full range of duties and is at the discretion of higher level supervisory or management staff.

Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Associate Civil Engineer/Architect
Education/Training:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in architectural, structural, civil engineering or a related field.
Experience:
Two years of responsible professional architecture, civil engineering, or facilities design experience performing duties comparable to those of a journey-level architect or facilities manager/designer.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California or Nevada driver's license.
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a professional civil, architect, or structural, engineer in the State of California or the ability to obtain within one year of employment
Facilities Management Certificate, or LEED Certification is desirable or the ability to obtain within 2-years of employment
