ESA seeks a highly motivated Coastal Scientist/Hydrologist/Engineer to join our team of engineers, hydrologists, geomorphologists, and ecologists in the Southern California region . We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic team member with 5+ years of work experience , a passion for coastal processes and ecosystem restoration, and the desire to learn and grow.
Who You Are
- Coastal scientist/hydrologist/engineer with 5+ years of professional experience in coastal analyses with an emphasis on coastal resilience, natural systems, and flood management in Southern California.
- You have led and managed coastal analysis tasks/projects of moderate complexity that have included preparing coastal hazard analyses, technical reports, adaptation plans, and monitoring reports. You are highly familiar with steps to gather data, perform analyses, prepare reports, and communicate results, including working closely with colleagues in related fields such as hydraulic engineers, planners, and ecologists. Experience supporting engineering design is desirable.
- You have led, managed, mentored, and/or supervised multidisciplinary teams including delegating and guiding junior-level staff through simple to complex tasks. You are an effective communicator who fosters teamwork and inclusion, and shares knowledge and expertise with more junior staff through mentoring and direct supervision.
- You hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, hydrology, civil engineering, geology, or a closely related discipline. A California Professional Engineers license is desirable.
What You Will Do for ESA
- You will help plan, perform and/or manage a wide array of challenging and exciting projects including climate change resilience, ecosystem restoration, habitat enhancement, engineering with nature, and flood & stormwater management.
- You will lead, manage, and assist with the preparation of coastal processes analyses, reports, designs, permit applications, and other project documentation. You will apply coastal processes models, GIS, and other tools to evaluate coastal hazards, impacts of climate change, and design solutions. You will have the opportunity to lead, manage, and participate in hydrographic, topographic, and related field data collection to support engineering analysis and design.
- As part of our management team, you will cultivate best practices in coastal process analyses; facilitate knowledge sharing and technical training; mentor and manage more junior staff; help manage workflow and make staffing and recruitment recommendations; and develop and oversee implementation of QA/QC protocols.
- You will collaborate with other scientists, engineers, hydrologists, geomorphologists, landscape architects, ecologists, biologists, and other specialists in advancing coastal resilience and restoration approaches and other project solutions from concept to implementation.
- You will thrive in a fast-paced, challenging environment and be able to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines, while working on a team or independently.

ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position, the range is approximately as listed based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.

$96,728 — $125,000 USD
