Overview
Garmin International Seeks Senior Software Engineer (Olathe, KS; multiple positions)
Essential Functions
- Provide technical leadership and project planning for mobile software development in Android for device interaction.
- Service in a leadership capacity for carrying out software development in Java, Kotlin and other selected languages for new products and applications.
- Utilize software development tools and instruments to develop, test, debug, and deploy quality software.
- Utilize tools such as Git and Bitbucket in the software development process.
- Create and execute designs for software components within a larger project.
- May perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software projects.
- Collaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions.
- Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem-solving techniques.
- Perform technical root cause analysis and outline corrective action for given problems.
- Serve as a mentor to less experienced software engineers.
- Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, and offer suggestions to improve processes.
- Associates are permitted to work from home, within commuting distance of the office, up to two days per week provided that their job duties can be performed effectively while working from home, and if they have appropriate approval from their manager.
- Full-time remote work is not available.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a related field plus 5 years of progressive experience in the IT environment, plus:
- At least 3 years developing mobile applications in a work environment; outside of school and internship projects.
- Demonstrable experience developing, testing and debugging applications with Kotlin and Java on the Android platform.
- Demonstrable problem-solving skills and ability to communicate the process to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness and demonstrable ability to work collaboratively on a team.
- Experience or demonstrable ability mentoring other less experienced software engineers.
In lieu of a Bachelor's plus five years of progressive experience, a Master's plus three years of experience in the requirements noted above is acceptable.
