What you'll do...
In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and guiding scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions across our technology ecosystem, ensuring alignment with industry trends, while maintaining a focus on innovation, usability, and business alignment.
As a Director of Software Engineering , you own building scalable data infrastructure, creating durable data assets and data products, ensuring data quality and governance, and facilitating data-driven decision-making to support the strategic vision of Sam's Club's people organization. You will lead a diverse, global organization. You will collaborate and partner with multiple data science and platform engineering teams, as well as product and business teams across the organization.

What you'll do:
- Lead the design and architecture for multiple products, ensuring cross-system integration, reusability, and alignment with technical priorities.
- Guide the team on coding best practices, frameworks, and tools to ensure scalability, automation, and security across applications.
- Drive application maintenance, re-engineering, and documentation, ensuring smooth operational performance and quick troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to capture requirements and manage the scoping, prioritization, and delivery of Minimum Viable Products (MVPs).
- Define and implement effective testing strategies, environments, and tools to ensure application functionality, usability, and quality.
What you'll bring:
- Strong Technical and Architectural Acumen - Proven experience in system architecture, cross-system integration, and defining technology stacks.
- Strategic Problem-Solving Skills - Ability to conduct RCA/RCCA, troubleshoot complex issues, and recommend scalable and secure solutions.
- Effective Communication and Collaboration - Excellent in gathering requirements, mediating conflicting needs, and aligning teams and stakeholders on shared goals.
- Deep Understanding of Coding Best Practices - Expertise in coding patterns, frameworks, automation tools, and scalability/security principles.
- Continuous Improvement Mindset - Passion for driving innovation, proposing alternative frameworks/tools, and improving application usability and performance.
Minimum Qualifications

- Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- Option 2: 8 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
- 3 years' supervisory experience.

- Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
