Are you a skilled Civil Engineer with site development experience and a passion for leading impactful projects? We are seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to join our team in Louisville!

The Lead Civil Engineer will provide technical leadership to project teams who will be working on planning, evaluation, design and implementation of civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead the study-phase and/or design-phase of projects related to the civil, environmental, construction and industrial fields. The Lead Civil Engineer would regularly have interaction with employees outside of their department, regularly have interaction with clients, regularly interact with the public (agencies, government entities, etc.), and occasionally participate in selling to clients. The lead civil engineer is expected to manage assigned employees, while being an example of professional presence, representing the Company and the department in a positive light, and have expert level of software knowledge of at least two (2) engineering software packages. A Professional Engineering license is required for this role.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs, and modifications.
  • Uses design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs; plans and designs other necessary improvement related to type of project assigned.
  • Sets design specifications by computing appropriate engineering requirements (i.e. - water flow rates, traffic demand, earth work balance, etc.).
  • Plans projects based on the analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data.
  • Drafts and presents reports on topics related to projects such as detention reports and engineering due diligence reports.
  • Perform calculations for materials, equipment, and labor needed to determine probable construction cost.
  • Collaborates with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure projects progress properly.
  • Collaborates with surveyors (or directs and participates in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction.
  • Monitors project progress and ensures design specifications and standards are met.
  • Able and willing to review other projects for QA/QC and stamp projects as appropriate.
  • Able to complete complex assigned projects independently as assigned with minimal oversight beyond initial handoff.
  • Able to teach and explain to others the methodologies used by The Company.
  • Advanced level of understanding of design tools and civil engineering practices. Capable other teaching others as necessary.
  • Complex design of projects.
  • Develop, mentor, train, evaluate, coach/discipline, acknowledge, and thank assigned staff.
  • Helping refine the methodologies being used for design.
Qualifications, Education, & Experience
  • Civil Engineering Degree (or related)
  • PE license
  • Preferred 15 consecutive years of Civil Engineering experience
  • Public speaking ability, desired
  • Routinely serves as technical expert for complex projects, for which they have prior experience and execute independently. And reflect The Company in a positive light to public and private entities.
  • Assign Co-Ops, Graduate Civil Engineers, and Associate Civil Engineers projects/pieces of projects aligned with their abilities.
  • Proactively implementing regulatory requirement based on knowledge of state and local regulations
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
  • Basic understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of site and transportation infrastructure improvements.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
