Reference #: 4660322 THE POSITION The Department of Transportation is on the lookout for an Engineering Technician to join their team. This position involves engaging in a range of entry-level technical tasks designed to provide hands-on training and develop expertise in the District's Signing Program. The role is part of a comprehensive 12-month training initiative aimed at equipping the selected candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this vital area of work. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will engage in both practical and classroom training aimed at enhancing your skills and expertise in the traffic sector, particularly concerning the standards, regulations, policies, and procedures associated with signage. You will be responsible for conducting field assessments of signing requests submitted by legislators, local municipalities, and the general public, ensuring that all correspondence and sign work orders are processed effectively for the installation of appropriate traffic control devices. Additionally, you will input sign work order notifications into the System Application and Products (SAP) software, coordinating efforts to guarantee that signs are installed accurately and promptly.You will also support team members by reviewing plans related to attraction and PA Logo signage, responding to inquiries from PA Logos LLC, and participating in both preliminary and final inspections of PA Logo signing projects. Your role will involve assisting the Administering Agency and design consultants in identifying suitable locations for Tourist-Oriented Directional Signs (TODS). Furthermore, you will contribute to the evaluation of District and consultant signing plans and shop drawings to ensure compliance with Department standards and specifications, tracking projects through to their final design and updating SAP sign inventories upon project completion.As needed, you will design signs utilizing Sign CAD software and collaborate with your supervisor to address any issues that may arise or to discuss any atypical or non-routine tasks. You will maintain a comprehensive database of approved sign manufacturers, signs, and materials. Additionally, you will organize and participate in the annual meeting with County Assistant Managers and Sign Foremen to review Department signing policies and preferences for the upcoming year.Your responsibilities will also include conducting semi-annual inspections of County Maintenance emergency detour trailers and providing assistance in various areas of the Traffic Studies/Safety/Signing Unit as directed by the Traffic Studies/Safety/Signing Supervisor. As a Power User of the SAP Application Plant Maintenance, you will take part in the Monthly Asset Management Focus Group (MAPI) for signing inventories and serve as a member of the District's Road Condition Reporting System (RCRS).Work Schedule and Additional Information:Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Dunmore. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
