Position Overview:

We are seeking a Product Safety Engineer to join our Product Service division in San Diego, CA. This position will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of various products through rigorous testing and evaluation.

Candidates with different levels of experience are encouraged to apply, with responsibilities and expectations adjusted accordingly.

This position is an onsite, fulltime, exempt position in San Diego, CA.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety assessments and testing on a wide range of products.
  • Analyze test results and prepare detailed reports.
  • Collaborate with product development teams to identify and mitigate safety risks.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to clients regarding product safety.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of customers' tested products and relevant internal information is maintained.
  • Operate standard test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, dielectric strength testers, environmental chambers).
  • Participate in customer kick-off meetings and audits (internal/external).
  • Stay updated with the latest safety standards and industry best practices.
  • Senior Engineer Only: Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers, develop and execute test plans, perform comprehensive construction reviews, and manage multiple projects.


Qualification

For Product Safety Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field) from an ABET accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in product safety testing and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of IEC and UL standards, OSHA's NRTL Program, and IECEE's CB Scheme preferred.
  • Familiarity with IEC 62368-1, 60335-1, 61010-1, and medical standards a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel as required.


For Senior Product Safety Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Biomedical, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in product safety engineering or a related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of IEC and UL standards, OSHA’s NRTL Program, and IECEE’s CB Scheme.
  • Strong technical writing skills for preparing detailed technical reports.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with medical product safety standards preferred.
  • Previous experience in a leadership or senior engineering role a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
