Position Summary

Mesabi Metallics is seeking a Junior Civil Engineer who will support the engineering team in the design, development, and management of civil engineering projects with a focus on environmental sustainability and tailings basin management. This role involves assisting with technical analysis, project planning, and compliance with environmental regulations to ensure safe and effective operations.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager – Civil Engineering, the Junior Civil Engineer will be responsible for the following:

  • Supports the Environmental Manager in acting as the primary liaison for the organization on environmental compliance matters with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Assist with preliminary site assessments to evaluate environmental conditions and impacts.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and standards related to civil engineering projects.
  • Assist with preparation of environmental impact reports and documentation required for regulatory submissions and project approvals.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable engineering solutions and practices to minimize environmental impact.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports and documentation related to tailings basin management and performance.
  • Support the monitoring of tailings basin performance and stability, including regular inspections and data collection.

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 3 years’ civil engineering experience, preferably with mining/manufacturing company.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental regulations and tailings management practices.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and engineering design tools.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

Physical Requirements

  • This position is a mixture of field work and office duties. Field work will be conducted daily throughout the year so exposure to the elements (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc) is to be expected. The office duties will require work in front of a laptop, desk, and phone.
