Job Details
This role will act as the design for manufacture subject matter expert (SME). This role will apply design for function and manufacture principles to provide guidance, identify risk, and develop solutions to ensure successful designs. This includes leading design for manufacture assessments and incorporating the resultant changes alongside the external vendors who created the technology. This role also will ensure the manufacturing processes are developed by applicable regulatory, quality, company, and customer requirements.
Engineer Essential Job Functions
Plan, conceptualize, and create designs for new equipment.
Develop testing processes and perform testing and validation of new designs.
Perform engineering calculations to support design work.
Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and contractors.
Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design process.
Ensure project timeline is met, and project stays within budget.
Engineer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
2-5 years of professional experience in machinery design or combination product design and development.
Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing mechanical systems and products.
Experience with mechanical and electro-mechanical design.
Expertise in component and subassembly design for manufacturing processes (assembly).
Excellent math skills, and ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems. Good working knowledge of risk management tools such as design and process FMEA.
Experience in developing, qualifying, and managing complex semi-automated and automated manufacturing processes.
Proven track record collaborating with and managing external vendors/manufacturers and managing multiple development and commercialization projects simultaneously.
Expertise in 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks) and geometric tolerancing and stack-up analysis.
Excellent collaboration, ideation, and prototyping skills, including facilitating design brainstorming sessions, developing proof of concepts, and working prototypes.
Strong report writing skills to document process development and qualification.
Solid testing and troubleshooting skills able to work independently in a machine shop setting.
